Angry allright, who put it there?

...the transaxle fill and drain plug right next to the muffler, that is. i changed my transaxle fluid tonight (2 quarts of mobil one 75w-90 synthetic) and i had to remove all the muffler hangers and inch the muffler over enough to access the bolts.

filling was an entirely different problem, as i had to manuever the big, bulky fluid bottles up over the muffler and in to the top fill hole without spilling it.

and they say porsches are well engineered?

NExt time, try getting some clear 5/8" hose from the hardware store, about three foot of the stuff will do it, and route it over the drivers side tire and into the fill hole. Works like a champ!

I just got one of those hand-powered suction pumps. put one hose in the tranny, and one in the redline gear oil bottle. worked like a dream. didn't spill, didn't remove anything but the wheel and the drain plugs.

Porsche would probably have eliminated that rediculous big bell housing as well.
Access to the plugs was no problem for me, exhaust is above them on mine.
My tranny oil came in 1 liter cans with an expandable neck, lenghth about 3 inch.
Just had to stick the neck in and hold the can up, poured in easy and completely.
The no of posts on filling give the impression that these cans are only obtainable in Europe.

An friend solved the problem by making one of these bottles:
Use an old (and well cleaned) soft plastic (soap?) flask and fabricate an hose in the cap.
Fill flask and crawl under to fill tranny, repeat as required.

Obviously Porsche asumes that tranny oil is replaced at the shop, they have pumps.

I solved that problem by buying one of those funnels with the LONG necks at the auto parts store. Cost less than five bucks I think, and worked like a champ.

I just did mine last week end. Wasnt a problem at all. I attached a hose to the bottle, ziptied it to the snout so it wouldnt come off and squeezed the bottle to 'pump' it in the trans.
Didnt spill a drop.

36,000 miles????
I'm showing 255k miles and while there is a FSH I wonder if the PO checked that it was done each time. They show the belts and brake fluid and A/F changes in the book - BUT???? the tranny - I wonder.
Now it's with a DIY owner I've got another job to do that I've been putting off since I got the car. Mobil-1 75W-90 I think.
Lots of useful tips here for getting it in though.
