Default Yet ANOTHER V8 944 [LS1 Powered] Pics and a sample Vid.

Hey all,

Yet another V8 swap!

I began this swap in December of '08 and its 98% complete. Right now the cars in the muffler shop getting a custom Y-pipe made to make it connect to my old LR 3" turbo back when I had the original turbo engine. The car drives like a dream and its very quick. I did all the work myself except for the exhaust. It was a VERY easy swap thanks to the conversion kit I ordered. Well here are some pics and an older video of her drivng. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics ill have better ones once the weather gets nicer over here.

And a quick video

Just under $5k for everything purchased so far. So it didnt hurt the bank to much but the LS1 Swaps are a lot more $$$ then the LT1 Swaps but I think its work the extra cash.

What kit did you use? Renegade?

The engine looks so happy in there.

Awsome! This is almost unbelievable for only $5k! I am planning to do that when my 2.5L dies or in a couple of years. How many miles does the LS1 have?

Lovely.

I'm about to have this done. Anything in particular to watch out for?

I heading to Vegas next week so while I'm there I'm going to see if I can pay a visit to Renegade Hybrids. I'm curious to see what they do and how they do it over there.

It has about 60k on the engine and 90k on the car.

Yeah, I went with the Renegade Kit. I went with the base LS1 kit and their headers and the upgraded clutch, which made it super easy to install. They will try and sell you other things but they really dont push you into anything. They are super nice guys over there just slow.

Lets see, one of the major things to watch out for doesnt even have to deal with the car. If you do decide to go with the Renegade kit order it now! They say 4 to 6 weeks, well it took 3 months to get everything!!! The best thing to do is email and call them weekly, that seems to motivate them into working faster.

As far as the actual swap its pretty straight forward but the real things to watch out for is the cross member and oil pan clearance. You MUST grind some metal off where the steering rack bolts to the cross member so that the oil pan doesnt hit under hard acceleration when the engine torques.

Also you have to run remote oil lines and relocate the oil filter and you run the oil lines between the block and the steering rack, well they will rub on a lip on the block so make sure you wrap the lines in that area with rubber or something to cushion the oil lines.

Also if your swapping into an N/A get a turbo trans. The N/A will not hold up to the abuse of the V8. Oh and bleed the cluch BEFORE you install the engine.

Thats pretty much it, I didnt run into any major problems. Its a lot easier then people think to do the swap.
