Default STUPID early offset!!!

That pretty much expresses my current feelings.

I'm due for new tires, and nothing I like comes in a size that I want on my car. I don't want to lower it, so the 225/50s won't work. I currently have 225/60s, and they're not bad, but I think the taller gear hurts my highway performance a bit, plus they rub the fender liner in the front slightly which I don't like. So Ideally, I would like to go back to the stock 215/60s, but there are almost no sport tires in that size.

So here's what I've been thinking about, and I would (of course) like all your opinions.

Spacers.... I have heard nothing but bad things about them from other people, but I know a ton of you guys are running them. Anyone here had bad luck? Wheels wobbling? Needing to replace bearings weekly?

16" fuchs.... I have 15"s now, and I really like the look of them, so I think 16's would be great. However, someday I would like to switch to late offset everything, so if I did buy some 16" fuchs to avoid spacers, I would need to sell them anyway.

Sell my fuchs for late offset parts. How much do you think I could get for my fuchs, and the flip side, how much would a good swap cost me?

Buy some cheap yokies in the stock size and wear them out till I figure out WTF I wanna do lol.

OR..... any options I haven't thought of.

Thanks all...

I currently run the stock 15" phonedials on the street and 16" BBS RC with 225/50/16 and have a bit of rubbing on full lock but they are my track set up. I run 7mm Racer's Edge spacers on the front to clear the turbo calipers and do not have any vibrations whatsoever. I would get a set of early offset 16" phonies and get 225/50/16 Bridgestone RE-01R from tirerack

Trade it to someone wanting to track their late car...

I don't particularly care for the phonies. I would rather get a set of 16" Fuchs if I was going to switch wheels.

RE-01s are all long and gone, stupid clearance sale.

prob sell the 15inch fuchs for around 800$, but thats just my dumb guess if they are in very good condition. i have 15inch fuchs on my car, and the tires are falken ze 912 all seasons on them. there is really no sport tire for 15inch wheels

as for 16inch, yes there are many options. i have 3/4 D90s and plan on converting to them soon, once i get that last wheel, and my tire option will be the dunlop Z1 stars which are summer tires. when it gets colder, the fuchs will make a return to the car.

I live in Vegas, so I don't really need "all season" tires.

I've been using the "search" (if you wanna call it that) and there are some good early offset wheel options that I didn't know existed. I do like the look of the early wheels, my only trouble has been wanting to upgrade my car.

I want bigger brakes, and z rated tires on my car in the future.

Maybe I should ask how I can do that while keeping early offset.

Are there any brakes that would work with an early offset 17" rim? (Providing I want to get some custom wheels...... that are not much more than 16" fuchs)

This car makes me mod mad...... I love the early offset looks, I love the fuchs, but nothing I want to do under them will work........perhaps custom rotors for big red calipers, AND custom wheels

Speed costs money.... how fast can you afford to go????

For an early car with upgraded brakes I would look for either 16" Turbo Fuchs or Turbo PD's that came on the 86 951. They clear turbo brakes, keep that period look, but the Fuchs are very pricey. Another option if you are opposed to spacers is go aftermarket. I run 17" CCW wheels on my 86 and can even fit 255-40's in the front with fender liner contact at severe braking/turning only. 15's are great for auto-X but street tire selection is a pain. Personally I like early offset, more lip for a deep dished look.

BF/goodrich g-force sport comes in that size, and it is a fantastic tire. it grips very well. i have full sets on two of my cars and will be my replacement tires as well. they are only about $90 apiece also.

I want the Gforce tires too, but I can only find them in either 225 50 or 60 .... none in the stock 215/60

Steve... or anyone.... can I get some links for some early offset wheel options.

I would keep my early offset stuff if I can find them in 17"s. I'll figure out the brakes later.....

Early or late doesn't really matter since they are all 215/60/15 for early or late. What you are looking for is an upgrade to 16 or 17 inch wheels. Fuchs in 16 inch will cost you $1200 to $1500 while the pd will cost you around $400. I installed long 84 n/a wheel studs and spacer to my 86 turbo and are using 17x9 wheels. You can find all kinds of tires in 275/40/17.

You won't find an early offset in 17" in anything but a custom aftermarket wheel unless it requires spacers. Remember, in 1986 a 16" wheel was considered a 'DUB' and found only on pasta cars. I think 16" is the largest you will find for a early offset OE wheel (without spacers) and 245-45/16 is the largest street tire you will find.

I saved this to my Flckr account so I don't have to go wondering about for this chard anymore

I have #6, and as per my thread, the wheels look really good, I just have to put the right sizes in right places; easly offset here as well

the 225/50's in 15 rub? what about 16?

Also, here's a link to WheelEnhancement: http://www.wheelenhancement.com/inde...s&ijt=car&id=1

One thing that i haven't heard anyone mention is to get the offsets right you will need approx. 1in spacers which will require longer studs which are expensive and a pain to install.

they are huge
