Turbo or not?
So just the other day I found a ridiculously good deal on an 88 Turbo. The guy sent me some pics, and now I'm really skeptical. Forgive me, I feel like I should be able to identify this without help, but I dont know a whole lot about engines. Anyway, here's a picture.
If I'm not mistaken, there should be a plastic cover with the "Turbo" insignia over that intake(?) there. Am I correct? Or is the engine just modified? I recently popped the hood on an NA 944 and it looked EXACTLY like this.
Thanks in advance.

That is an NA with a cone filter replacing the stock airbox. A turbo would have a lot more hardware in there to pressurize the incoming air.

show us a picture of the front bumper of the car. then we will know for sure if it is a turbo, or a NA with a "turbonator" inside that K&N that boosts the HP way above turbo levels - for only 19.95 plus S&H.

I suppose I'll have to ask the guy, but he's already getting craploads of e-mails from people who think it's a real turbo.
LOL he's been trying to sell it for at least two years (really three but doesn't matter lol) i think http://www.cardomain.com/ride/575544
Just stay away!

You'll probably laugh, but what could possibly be so bad about it? It said on the cardomain page it was restored and over $25,000 was put into it, so unless he's lying (which it sure doesn't look like it) it must be in great shape. It only has around 86,000 miles, which is far lower than other 944's in my price range. It has a K&N filter... etc. I mean i normally do stay away from aftermarket cars, especially 944's, but this one seems to be exceptional, even if it isn't a turbo.

25,000$.....really??? into what?
No,really, you should slow down a bit, take a deep breath and look around rennlist for a bit and see some real 944's that has 25,000 into them, then go compare.
IMHO that doesnt even have 8-10,000 into it ,its just a little flashy on the outside and a tired old 944 on the inside.
Just curious, how much does he want for it?

That's what's crazy, he only wants $2900 for it. Even if its not perfect, I don't mind. It wont be my daily driver, and Ill have plenty of time to work on it. But you could be right, who knows what that engine has been put through.
