Default Ride Height Question..

So, I am almost done with the modding session and I am trying to figure out what ride height to set the car to. I am reaching out to the 944 Cup racers and the DE addicts....could you guys provide some measurements from the ground through the center of the wheel to the edge of the wheel well on the fender for the front and rear of the car. If the wheels makes some difference I run 225/50/16s.

Thanks!

the service manual measures from the ground to the caster mount bolt heads; an from the ground to the underside of the torsion bar caps.

I'll have to dig out some measurements for you...

I have my car set to 5.75" front and 9.25" rear. I may go up a quarter or half an inch in the rear this year.

I am about 4" front and rear to the rockers. This is on 225/50 R15. So off the top that is 4.5" if were using 225/50 R16.

That is as low as you would ever want to go. For a street car on 16's I would not go below 5" the rocker.

Thanks guys! How about the position of the front control arms comparing to the ground....I heard it is not good to have ball joint sitting higher than the caster block comparing to ground level. I have my control arms in parallel to the ground.

Also, I have some strange knocking when going through uneven pavement and even when I start applying pressure on the front suspension when the car is still....I found that my wheel bearing is going bad so I replaced it but the knocking is still there. I had my wife jumping on the front of the car to make the suspension play but I could not see anything moving/sliding from underneath the car. The knocking is definitely coming from the driver's side than the passnger's side.

This is my theory - parallel to the ground is as low as you should go.

As for the knocking, I'd vote for bad strut.

Could be your top stut mounts going bad on the front, I had a thud/knocking noise when cornering before replacing them with camber plates.

sounds like either your castor block 19mm nut is loose- or your upper strut nut. My car is 13inches from the center of the wheel to the edge of the wheel well in front, and 12" in the rear- car is actually level like this- level placed on rocker panel.

Thanks for the info! I will check the upper strut nut....I haven't touched the castor block nut. I recently replaced the spindle and put the coilovers and torqued everything up to specs. But I never checked the upper strut nut because I got the coilovers and camber plates pre-assembled and assumed everything should be tight there....but they were used so who knows

Could it be a sway bar mount or drop-link?

The sway bar has new bushings and a pair of derlin ones on the top side of the control arm. I also have the reinforcement braces. I used to have a knock when cornering but that was fixed by changing/upgrading the sway bar bushings. Also, I do not know whether the sway bar knocking could be felt on the top of the driver's side fender....around the camber plate....that is where it feels the most.

The knocking could be the ball joint. Get it checked asap - this can be bad.

Ride height - keep the a-arms parallel to the ground. Measure from the rocker panel to the ground, where the seams are for the doors. You want abot 5-5.5 inches. For best performance on fast turns you can try to keep the rear a little lower than the front. Note that for best balance you really need to corner weight the car.
