Benefits of converting an S2 to a MAF System?
Does anyone have any data on the benefits of converting the AFM to a MAF in a non turbo car?
If so, does anyone make a plug and play system?
This would be for a track car...

Do a search under member "Thom", he fitted a MAF on his S2 several years ago.
I also had this MAF on my 951 before switching to Vitesse stuff. Driveability and throttle response were really better than with the stock unit. There're many topics on the Scivision kit on the turbo board, have a look.
The install is very easy, I bet less than one hour (including beers) on a S2.

If you are after an improvement on the track I would say that there is not that much benefit according to this article:

Some drivability improvements perhaps, but as you are always on WOT on the track, it wouldn't reduce your lap times.

On the 944S2 we saw a good power gain across the board, this was due to the MAF and the tuning. We also tuned 944S2 without a MAF, we got good results just not as high as the one with a MAF. On the street/track, customers loved the crispier response and could feel the overall increase in power output. The transition from off throttle to on throttle was much better (on the track this translates to a better lap time, assuming you are using the most out of your engine in the first place)
Serious racers going after every bit of power, loved the conversion. One of the top runners in one of the race series (not PCA) loved the MAF on his 944NA (and for a good reason). The following year the MAF was no longer allowed. So if you are racing, make sure a MAF conversion is allowed!
Keep in mind, on a NA car it takes lots of work to get the extra HP, the MAF is a good tool to use. However, without the proper tuning to go along, you are not gaining much.
If you are not after every bit HP, a good chip might work well for you. Some of the top 944NA and 944S2 racers are using our software. For your best results with a MAF or AFM, having someone tune your car on the dyno is the best way to get the most out of it.
The MAF conversion we did was done by rewriting the software, to provide a genuine MAF conversion. There are other kits that use a MAF sensor but they convert the signal to look like a AFM so the DME understands it. When shopping for a MAF make sure you know what you are getting.

I would echo what John said. According to Bill Burris (PCA Tech contact for late 944's), the MAF really won't make any great gain if it is swapped out for AFM in street use. On the track, there would be a minimal gain. The key is in all the other surrounding issues of tuning. It really comes down to "where do you get the most performance per dollar spent".
