Unhappy

When that motor let go, a whole crowd of people went running over to the dyno. We weren't sure if the engine blew or the car slipped its harness and went into the wall! It was a really sick feeling, as the car had been parked next to me all day at the swap meet and I got to know its owner. It let go at only 3800 RPM!

I am surprised to hear that so many other Rennlist people were at the event. I was wearing my Rennlist.com 944 hat, and only the Suncoast Porsche people even made mention of it. I would have liked to meet those of you that were there, especially since I had to miss the Orlando get together the night before. Next time, I'll put up a Rennlist sign so that people have a place to congregate.

Whoops! where's the waste gate when you need it? Guess the 80K mile crank coudn't handle the new tight head gasket and valve job with 23 lbs of boost! Don't know what made the 13 year old stock waste gate stay closed.
pulled the plastic back and revealed a 8" hole and a rod bearing bent in two droped out. Got a line on a used motr for 250 or could get a crate motor with a brand new lower end and turbo pistons with new rings for $2000.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune but with that bargain you will be back in the game real soon.

Hey Andy, you need to get in tighter on the twisted metal bits next time!!! Oh well.

That engine sounds cheap, but you want to make sure you trust the builder before you go to the expense of installing it. I usually prefer to have the work done for me, rather than buying a completely rebuilt unit, but I guess it depends on who did it.

i doubt it's the lbe's fault, but i also bet if you pull your intake manifold you'll find a crack or cracks in some of the vac. lines that run to/from it, and affect the wastegate signal. don't ask how i know about that one (look @ my avatar)

I bet the boost was not the cause, maybe the last straw but not the sole problem.

Just going from my explosion in #1 cylinder, broken rod, bent valves, big holes in block and oilpan causing an oil fire ( think that won't scare the crap out of a guy ) I was not under boost at the time.

I suspect a prior blown headgasket that got worse, flooding the cylinder causing hydro-lock and BANG!!

Just my guess

Once again sorry Doc, things will be ok again.

Out of respect, I didn't want to get too close. I felt bad enough documenting another's carnage. My girlfriend and I were directly behind the car, and when the car lunched, I moved quicker than I have in quite a while.

On a different note, I see quite a few people from the Tampa area here. I'd love to get together for a local drive sometime, if people are interested.
