Ferraris and Koenigseggs are Hand built... Fords and GM's are machine built... I rest my case.
I don't want some Joe putting my car together, but I'd rather have it hand built than computer made. Especially considering Porsche prices.

My Dad had a 1980 Avanti II, hand built by the old guys who had built the original in the old Studebaker plant. Studebaker probably had more automation when they built them in the 60s.
At least in that case, except for the cache and the customization that was possible, I couldn't see an advantage. Nothing fit right and everything was always falling off. We stopped by on the way back from Florida to get some replacement exhaust tips, and my Dad told the parts guy, "My Ford station wagon has better chrome!" (It did.)

lotus elises are hand-built.
i heard a story once about how someone cracked a headlight on their elise and ordered a new one to replace it; when the new one arrived it wouldn't fit at all, and it turned out that the bloke in the factory had filed down part of the headlight body to fit it into the body..
