Post Phone dials get too much grief...

and I'll prove it if a member will post a pic that I can email to them. I know, I will be joining shortly.

I just painted my PD's with DupliColor Anthracite, hand painted the centers and wrapped 'em in Yokohama AVS Sports.

The color of my car is Nautic blue. I think the dark wheels with the dark paint works really well.

So who's gonna help me post a pic? Thanks in advance.

Can't help w/ a pic, but I too like phone dials (86's, the newer offset doesn't look right to me). the ones on my old '86 951 almost glowed... (I miss that car almost every day...)

I, too, very much like phonedial wheels, and I enjoy how their original color sets off from the Guards body:

Kgosselin, if no one else can upload for you, send me the photo and I will post so that we can see your hard work and color combination.

I too like the PD's.. I'd love a set of turbo twists as well for the 944..

A pic of mine after I refinished them, I likes the metallic silver a little better than the OEM color....

Has anyone had PD's chrome plated? If so are there any pics anywhere?

What's your opinion?

My car has 15" fuchs, but I prefer 16" phonedails. I've talked to a Porsche specialist, and I can trade the fuchs for 16" PD plus tires. In addition he will also give me a big discount on a new antenna windscreen.

Is this a good deal, or are the fuchs worth more than his offer. Also, will the 16" PD fit my car, an 85 1/2 N/A?

I really like the PD's... Now I just have to refinish mine so they will look as good as yours.

awilson40:

It was easy and only cost me $29 in supplies.

Two cans of DupliColor paint.
One can of DupliColor clear.

Testors Black, Red and Gold model paint.
One teeny tiny brush.

One roll of masking tape.

One package or 000 steel wool.

Thouroughly clean wheels with Simple Green, scrubing with steel wheel, not just a sponge.

Dry. Then give a final scuffing with dry steel wool. Tack rag clean. Mask off, spray 4-5 light coats of paint, and 2 light coats of clear.

To do the centers, sit down at a table with a drink of your choice and just slowly paint within the lines.

Voila, nice wheels in one sunny day.

The results are glossy, and tough. As an alternate to the expensive and tough to find locally Wurth I like the results.

I like the shape of the PDs more than any other Porsche wheel (except the turbo twists, those are sweet!).
I think they look especially good in the Anthracite above. How did you do that?
Mine look like nobody ever cleaned them before I bought the car. It's going to take a lot of scrubbing and a lot of chemicals to get them looking that pretty.

Thanks for the howto kgosselin. I'm extra impressed that you put it up a minute before I finished posting my request.
That's efficiency!

Wow, Kev, they look great with the dark gray paint!

I, too, have phone dials on my 951, and I love them (although there's something I really like about Perry's wheels). I think that the phone dials are quintessentially Porsche. You'd never see something like that on another car.

I prefer to leave things stock, and Kevin has, yet at the same time he's added an element of personalization. Great job!
