Post think i am going to sell my car...

Yup, after three long years I think its finally time to get a different car. I will really miss it, not all the headaches though. I don't think I will get much for it at all. It is probably a better parts car than anything else unless someone wants a big project that has plenty of money.

Does anyone know the price range for a running '83 944 that needs body/interior work? It runs alright but I think it needs a new fuel pump. State inspection is good until next April. It needs new struts/shocks all around. Fog lights don't work, rear hatch doesn't open quite right. Water leaks into the car at the battery tray and around rear hatch. Needs tires all around. Probably could use tie-rods too. The car looks good if you stand at the right angle Its still a fun car none-the-less. Basically its a POS, but I had so many good times in it.

What do you think its worth?

Anyone looking for a car?

Now, on a side note. I'm going to look at a 2000 Eclipse GT, V6, 5 speed with 55k miles on it. Does anyone know of any reliablilty issues with the latest generation eclipses? Anyone have any experience with them? They are asking $11995. Sound fair?

I just wish someone would pull out in front of me or something...I would forget to stop...thats the easy way to get rid of the car...

I would think you could sort out all the issues with your 83 for a whole lot less than $12 large <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> .

I guess you're just ready for a change. Best to you. Sorry to see you quit on 944s.

I would have to tell you to shy away from the Mitsu line unless you are looking at a GSX or something similar. I work at a dealership, the trade in value / depriciation on a car like that is weak.

If you have to change, perhaps Prelude? Integra? Old Bimmer/Audi/VW?

Or a newer sweet P-Car!

Tim,

I sold my first 86 944NA and bought a 911, while I love my 911 I discovered I really missed the 944.
So I bought another NA, than an 87 951 and my currant 88 951.
I cant think of another car I would rather drive on a daily basis that would cost as little.
Think it over.

Good luck!

I would suggest some research on <a href="http://www.kbb.com" target="_blank">www.kbb.com</a> and <a href="http://www.edmunds.com" target="_blank">www.edmunds.com</a>

Should answer a LOT of questions. Preludes can be pricy or cheap, all depends on how much research you do and if you get suckered into the ricer "niche".

Eclipse?!?

Man, what are you thinking? Prelude? Even worse.

You've got to be ****tin' us. I can think of several much better ways to spend 12 grand.

i'd go a year back and grab the gsx if anything. the eclipse is no longer a sporty car, just a sporty body and a family car fwd 3.0 v6 powertrain. there are plenty of good sporty cars out there but the eclipse isn't one of them. and it's not even like you'll gain build quality or reliability cause eclipses have never been known for those things.

why not get a mid 90's bmw of some sort? if that's not your taste i can pull out a bunch more japanese cars that would be great.

and to slinky, what's wrong with the prelude? it was once dubbed the best handling car under $30k. nice interior and honda reliability make it a good choice i think.

BMW. Just what I was thinking.

Sorry, Andrew, not a Honda fan. I guess they're ok if you want something practical. Besides, just too many on the road.

you can get a 951 for under 15 grand...it looks better, handles better, accelerates better, is a head turner, and is even less rice than a Honda or a me-so-bitchy.

and what time in your life is it that you don't think a Porsche is the right car? man, I'm a college student. I keep my car in the parking lot. I can barely afford repairs, but I do all my own wrenching. takes up a lot of time, but hell, it's such a great car, I don't mind the work and money spent. ($12,000 about on a $3,000.00 car) but soon, It'll be runnin for a long time. no more spun bearings for me.

I never thought the day would come. If you do sell it you will be back soon. These things are like heroin... once you get started you dont want them... you NEED them. Even if you dont drive it every day, or ever, you just have to know its there.

I would suggest the BMW also. Thats what I was looking into when my first 944 jumped up. You can get a great deal on a used BMW $6000-$10000. The only downside to them is repairs but I am sure between all of us here we can figure out anything that goes wrong.
