Ahh Pshaw Turb.
Dodge Magnum SRT-8
Engine: 5.7 Hemi, supercharged
430 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque
0-60 4.7 seconds
Top end 160mph
All in a "station wagon"
But thanks I was curious what engine they were going to put in the SRT-4. Nice looking car, not perfect but nice for a new car. Very aggresive rear end. Hopefully they will drop a 6 or an 8 into it eventually.

Funny, this week my Subaru is in the shop, and I'm driving a loaner Neon SE. Good room in the car, and IMO, it's a nice looking package, BUT: no power (I think it's got the 2.0 liter engine, not the 2.4), the tranny often is hunting for the right gear (I think it's a 3 speed manual), and at highway speeds, the engine sounds like a love-sick moose suffering from diarrhea!
But: the SRT-4 sounds like an interesting car. It will definately sell.
Still, it's a FWD Neon.

The problem with these cars is that a couple of years of whipping them around and they become a creaky mess. The build quality is not there and never will be in this type of car. so after it gets abused by junior, your going to have one major POS.

They are building a good performing car for the money. The question is, where are they cutting the corners? Do you guys think Dodge is just being nice? No, they are making their money off of this car. I am really starting to lose confidence in all domestic cars. My dad's Ford Taurus that is a company car has already had the rear main seal dumping oil and the transmission leaking. It only has 50k miles on it! Even when looking closely at a car like the Viper, it has really poor build quality..
But then not all people car for excellent build quality so everything has a place I suppose.

Another thing, it's not how fast you go. It's how well you go fast. I've driven lots of fast cars....Supercharged mustang, Ferrari 328, GMC Typhoon, Corvette ZR1, 1993 Carrera 4, Saab 900 aero, turbo charged MR2, Twin turbo 300z. All fast cars. But I have yet to be in a car that feels as connected to the road as the 944. The closest was the MR2. Man you can really wip that thing. But it takes getting used to the mid engine setup. I spun it the first time I was coming off the highway off ramp.

Will it pass the test of time? I'll more inclined to pay attention if any significant precentage of the cars made are around in 20+ years.
It's an OK car for the young crowd that will keep it a couple of years and then sell/trade for something better.

Oh yes I agree on all points. Just wanted to show what we've got to compete with!!!! Be a shame to lose to a neon. Personally, Ive been driving the 944 series for 5 years now, and cant think of another car I'd rather be driving under 50k.

The SRT-4 is way under rated.

I would be inclined tho think that these cars, given the same amount of atention the average P-car owner gives to his (or her) fetish, there would be a considerable number of them around in twenty years. Sadly, these cars will be driven not only daily, but in winter salt, and neglected to boot. So, it is, in my humble opinion a "self fullfilling prophecy" that these Neon derivatives will be mostly junk in ten years. Give your 944 the same lack of attention and respect and it would wind up that way too!!
Even though I have owned 4 different Porsche models through the years, I cannot buy into the fact that their engineering is that much better than anyone elses. Until recently, though, the bean counters were not the ones in charge as they have been in Detroit. That has been changing for Porsche ever since the eighties. So, the earlier Porsches had a higher build quality and a litle more thought in their overall design. Changing the clutch, for example, is far easier in a 356, a 911 or a 912. Heck, even in a 914!! As far as the Neon goes, I have not read too much about timing belt failures either.
Flame away....

Someone posted about this car a few weeks ago & it's times were listed: 0-60, 1/4 mile, 0-120, etc. It beat the Turbo S to ALL of them- not by much, but STILL. I'd say the Neon's at least 200lbs lighter, but that's not quite enough to offset the 32HP & 12TQ, especially since it will PROBABLY have more trouble getting traction, being FWD, unless it has a good LSD of some sort- Torsen maybe? Well, if it's putting down 223/250, then it makes more sense, as that's actually more than a nice stock Turbo S will put down.
It does kind of bother me. I KNOW I'd rather be in my Turbo S, but would still hate knowing that any idiot w/a license, and enough $ for a downpayment can drive one off the showroom floor. One thing to remember though- many cars don't actually come to production as they are originally advertised. Oftentimes, tested prototypes are faster, and, even still, the consistency of American cars, when it comes to performance, is for sh**! Remember the ZR-1? When the 375HP one came out in '89, one of the mags (R&T or C&D) tested it and ran 12.9. Several years later, the magazine tested a 405HP model at 13.8. Vipers have always been a little inconsistent too, although not quite as bad. Oh well, it looks like we may be seeing yet another F&F car out there...

I have to disagree on the egineering part. My friend has a 2001 Mustang. That thing is only two years old and over bumpy roads or RR crossing it's pretty rattle filled. His 96 Mustang is even worse. My S2 is a cabrio and you do not hear one single squeak or rattle over rough roads and RR crossing. It's like it's built from a solid piece of metal. He even admits it when he drives it. This guy works for Dragone Classic cars in CT. He drives exotics all the time. Every time he jumps in the S2 he has to tell me how solid the car feels. Big difference my man.
