Default iRacing Garage Party and Cookout - April 4 - Cincinnati east side

Anyone interested in a GTG at my place to try out iRacing? I have a pretty good setup in my basement with an 100" HD projector screen, and a good steering wheel and pedals.

iRacing is pretty awesome. If you've heard of it or read about it in GRM and wondered what it's like, here's your chance to try it. I just have the basic iRacing package so far with a few road courses (Laguna Seca, Summit Point, and Lime Rock). There are lots of other tracks to choose from, but I have not purchased access to them yet.

I'll have some food and beers for everyone as well. Let me know if you're interested so I make sure to have enough food.

Date: Saturday, April 4
Time: 4 pm - whenever
Place: My house, near Eastgate/Amelia, OH (pm me for address)

EDIT: Time changed to 4 pm, due to DE tech inspection and other festivities at Porsche of the Village in Cincinnati.

Alan

Sounds like a great time. I just have to see where I am at for getting ready for Mid-OH at that time. I may be on my way to GA for a trailer.

Cool, you can be the instructor if you come.

Ooh, I just had a thought. Maybe I'll move the projector out to the garage so we will have some nice cars to look at in between iRacing runs. I'll have to try it out and see if the screen contrast is good enough with daylight shining in the garage (projectors work best in a dark room).

I don't know about iracing but I was able to get a few different versions of Mid-Ohio online for GTR. You may want to see if you can find anything good to download. Mid-ohio was incredibly realistic.

What's GTR? Gran Turismo?

Maybe I should buy Mid-Ohio for iRacing...

GTR is a racing simulator that is supposed to hone skills on specific tracks. Its kinda hard to get used to but once you do it's pretty intense. You don't need a steering wheel but I highly recommend it for the experience.

Very cool. Looks similar to iRacing, except that iRacing is pretty much U.S. tracks that "regular guys" drive on. Looks like GTR has all top circuits around the world, which is cool, too. I like iRacing because I can learn tracks that I might actually drive someday.

Here are the iRacing road courses (unfortunately, no Mid-Ohio yet):

Auto Club Speedway
Barber Motorsports Park
Daytona International Speedway
Homestead-Miami Speedway
Infineon Raceway
Lime Rock Park
Long Beach
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Miller Motorsports Park
Moroso Motorsports Park
Mosport International Raceway
Phoenix International Raceway
Road America
Road Atlanta
Sebring International Raceway
Silverstone Circuit
Summit Point Motorsports Park
Virginia International Raceway
Watkins Glen International
Willow Springs International Motorsports Park

If there is a particular track that you guys want to drive, let me know and maybe I'll buy it. I think they cost about $20 each.

The tracks that come standard are pretty cool. Lime Rock is a good track to learn on, Summit Point is a little bit harder, and Laguna Seca is much more challenging.

That sounds very similar. The nice parts about GTR is that people/companies will make tracks that are not currently available. Right now I have a friend working on Nelson Ledges because that's where he spends all his time racing. Plus the downloads are usually free. I wish I could make it down this weekend to check out the racing but wedding planning for some reason seems to take priority (my wedding is in 5 weeks)....
