Arrow Would I be crazy to sell my 944...

Simply to buy a newer, slightly faster S2 in another color, with the leather that I currently don't have??

If my mechanic can find a buyer at a decent price, I could be armed with a fistfull of dollars, in a prime buyers market, etc.

My car is in perfect shape (after I put about $2k into it)...would I be insane to take on a new 944, with potential new problems? I figure my original clutch and shocks are due for a change soon...Putting another $2-3k into this car doesn't really sound as exciting to me as using the money to obtain a white S2 w/black leather, new clutch, all records, etc, for $9k.

web page

Somebody kick me!?

Well, I guess since I have only had the car for about a year, and have driven it about 2k miles, the attatchment isn't quite formed yet--hence the temptation to upgrade!

You sayin you don't like your S2 as much as the NA?? 60+ extra horses must be more fun, no?

Andy-
Trust me its plenty fun! I love them both, but the old one was the first car I bought and I spent a ton of time on it. Not mechanically but asthetically speaking, cleaning it non stop. I guess I want my cake and be able to eat it too, I wish I had both. Coming over the mountains today I loved the S2 though! Good luck!

I had an -88 n/a, and few month ago I sold it and bought my current 951.
My ex-p car was my first porsche, and I miss it ones in while, but when hitting it with 951 and when the boost comes along in 3K (thanks to Guru.. ), got to tell you guys, there's no sorrow....

If you really want an S2 and get a decent price for your's then jump. Probably a good time too since you haven't had the car for a long time. Been 6 years with my S2 and I won't sell it now. I'll have another P-car someday but not at the expense of this one.

BTW the pic of that white S2 looks good!

Cheers,

I just figure that if I can find an S2 that has a newer clutch and koni yellows, and get a good price for my car, it would be money well spent to upgrade to a car with airbags, anti-lock, etc, while getting the color/interior that I like better.

Could be a pipe-dream, considering it is winter, and although my NA is mint and in super mechanical shape, it is an NA...book value is, what, $5k??

It depends on the "book", you should be able to get $6500 to $7000 for a car as clean as yours in this area. The bad news is that if a clean S2 hits the market in central NJ (especially silver/black) you might have some competition from another buyer .

I would take $7k for my car, I think. Then, with an added $2k or so, I would be hunting for that clean S2 you may also hunt (any decision on the motor/oil problem yet?)! Only, I wouldnt mind flying down to Georgia or Florida and driving back, if I could get a good car. I got my car up in Boston. Drove it back with a hole in the exhaust right under the dash! D'oh!

I am also done with silver, if I decide to sell. Every car I have ever owned was either silver or silver! White, red, or blue S2 would be a welcome change.

What I wouldn't want is a car that would need a ton of work a month after I get it home! I have peace of mind with my current car.

Decisions, decisions!

Andy, you're not crazy. I'm considering the same thing. Just don't tell my wife.

Pete--I'm not mentioning it to my wife either--yet anyway! If/when I have a firm offer on my car, then I can tell her the "almost even exchange" tale! I am sure that she will think I am insane either way!

Also, I am sure that as soon as I sell my car, the market for S2's will completely dry up, and I'll be stuck looking for months!

Hmmm...seems the S2 weighs over 300 pounds MORE than my NA. Will the S2's increase of 50 horsepower actually be lost because of the increased weight??

Here's a nice 1988 NA with "special edition" cloth on eBay, and it's bringing almost $10 grand.

Now who says the NA values are dropping?

1988 PORSCHE 944 with 63k miles

Andy, do what you want, but you do have a unique 944...not many "special editions" out there.
