0-60 time?
Can anyone give me an estimate on time for 0-60 in a 1988 944 turbo (non-"S") with an Autothority Stage 2 chip? Top speed?
I understand that HP is increased from around 217 to about 260...
Thanks!

badger, we don't need no stinken badgers....sorry, I know that was a bad quote, but it had to be done.
I think they knock a couple of tenths of 0-60 times.

Turbo S's were usually listed at 5.5 seconds, so w/the much faster spool-up of the smaller turbo, and the extra power (20bhp or so?), and LSD, you should be able to get pretty close to a 5.0 w/a good launch- 0 - 60 is largely determined by the launch anyway. Most Turbo S's ran a 5.5 and their 1/4 was 14.2 @ 101 or so. Usually a 5.5 is pretty close to a 14.0 and you take 1/10 off the 0 - 60 for every 1/10 from the 1/4, so YOU should hit close to a 13.5 @ the 1/4 assuming everything's right w/a good launch- many of the other listers are running below 5.0's and 13.5's w/similar mods...

I've done 4.7s 0-60 times consistently before. 87 951, stock turbo, Autothority Stage 2, AVC-R @ 15psi, 16 inch stock wheels on Michellin Alpin snow tires.
I do 5.7s now thanks to the big turbo =).

Rage, I don't get it....5.7 with a Bigger turbo? I thought bigger turbos made you faster once you get over the lag.. was the lag that severe that it actually added more than a sec to 0-60??

I get no boost under 4000rpm. So my launches can be one of the following scenarios :
1. Feather the clutch at 5000rpm. Because of the lightened flywheel, there's not much energy built up at 5000rpm, therefore RPM's drop to about 3000 rather quickly. 3000-4000rpm there's a nice long bog, then boost kicks in and away I go. Oh, and the clutch smells wonderful after too =).
2. Feather the clutch at 6500rpm. Should be enough energy built up here. Unfortunately, the clutch overheats, can't take it, and proceeds to slip through 2nd and 3rd gear. 0-60 in 8 or 9 seconds. The clutch smells even more wonderful in this scenario...
3. Drop the clutch at 5000rpm. Wheelspin, bog at 3000rpm. See Scenario #1...
4. Drop the clutch at 6500rpm. Wheelspin, lots of it. Car's bouncing off the limiter. Ease off the throttle when I think the speed is enough to keep me in the powerband. 5.7s 0-60mph.
Don't believe me? I don't blame you, lots of people wonder why 0-60 is so bad on my car hehe. Check out my drag strip videos. There's 3 runs here, and I lose out everytime except to a FWD VW Jetta 1.8T. All 0-60 times are measured with the Blitz Power Meter ID, calibrated on a dyno @ 40km/h. It's a very accurate device (measures wheel speed) unless I get wheelspin at 60mph (which I don't). I would get wheelspin if the clutch lets me powershift... (it slips madly if I try) so I just shift really fast.
I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Paul Bloomberg's 400rwhp 2.5L 951 suffers from the same problem at the drag strip.

I guess I can see how that can happen....I didn't realize the impact of spool speed/lag was so severe....Thanks for the insight. Seeing from your 1/4 mile, I guess you make up much of the loss a bit later......

Yea, I talked to the guy in the Stealth after the run, he had a pretty good launch off the line (AWD, 2.0s 60ft time) and said I was about 3 or 4 carlengths back by the time he was in 2nd gear. He thought it'd be an easy win, and was shocked I blew by him at the end really hard. I beat him by 0.6s =).
