So my 944 when it runs, has no power above 4k. I'm fairly sure its the Cat for a few reasons. I ordered a direct replacement Cat from Partstrain.com. Unfortunately the previous owner did a pretty good hacking the exhaust up. So I'm going to have to take it somewhere to get fixed. I'm thinking of going to Midas just because it's a semi trustable company. Their site says they use Flowmaster mufflers. Would this be an acceptable thing? I don't know much about mufflers.

it will be loud. it was right on the line of being too loud imo. so its dependant on your taste

There should be a file on here somewhere with a Flowmaster. Personally I like the Borla XR-1 that is on the SFR Exhaust Setup. Search for Exhaust Clips

i got a generic schultz unit a few months ago because i needed it to pass ca emissions and it was like $180 total...the car even has a neat snarling noise around 3800rpm lol

I don't like them on a 944, of magnaflow. I have used both.

It's not terrible though. I suppose it's different with a turbo car since I have that big snail shaped pre muffler.

I have a Flowmaster Super 40 going into a wide tip. Loud, but has a nice, deep, snarling note to it.

Might not be to everyone's taste, but I like it.

Another site I asked is having a field day with the thought of putting Flowmasters on a 944. Found some clips, sounded pretty good. I can't find anything for N/A with Borla or Dynomax though. Whatever is on there right now drones horribly at high way speed. I'd like to avoid this.

My 86 non-turbo is running a Flowmaster 40 series also, with no catalytic converter. It is indeed very loud, especially with having no carpet or sound deadning in the back. It can be heard from blocks away, and I pretty much wake up my neighbors every time I start the car up at night. For a daily driver, I would probably find something a little quieter, or put a performance cat on or something.

My car will still be running a cat. In fact a brand new direct replacement piece from Parts Train. So I'm guess it'll be on par with my current exhaust. Someone suggested a Dynomax. He runs two on his 700hp Charger, and had high praise for it.

And do you have any videos of the Drift 944? It's be a secret dream of mine to make mine do that...

I have a Magnaflow on my S2, yes it's loud. I thought something was broken when I first revved the engine because from the inside of the car, it sounded as if the engine were sitting on my lap.

I have a flowmaster on my 951. It is rather loud outside of the car and has a droning sound on the highway (3k-4k rpms). It sounds decent when you are "enjoying" the car, but for a daily driver it would be really annoying (personal opinion).

No clue what series mine is ...

That's EXACTLY what I'm afraid of. I've yet to hear a non-factory exhaust on an N/A that wasn't too loud. I've got some series flowmasters on my pickup (4.6 L Ford) and it sounds great. If you keep your foot out of it, it's just mean sounding. When you get on it, it gets nice and loud without being too loud (unfortunately, even with all that noise it still can't get out of its own way).

If I could find something that did that for an N/A I'd put it on.

For both the N/A and the Turbo the Dansk sounds great, moderate at low throttle, outrageous at WOT, definite improvemet on both. and I drive 150 miles round trip to and from work, so highway isn't too bad.

Only issue is to fit on a car that has had "other modification" made to the exhaust system it might take some work to fit as they are both direct replacement for the factory 1 piece muffler...and they aren't cheap...

We just did it to my friend's daughter's car, using the flowmaster. It runs through a cat and sounds excellent, just as whisper describes. However she did something really cool when it was installed. She had a double tip welded on the end and instead of having it angle down, it angles up and look like a Ferrari. Nice sound and nice look.
Hey, you want quiet, don't by a Flowmaster. If you do use the FM, be sure it runs through a cat or it will be really loud.

If you want really quiet, sell your 944 and buy an American Sedan, like a Taurus.

It sounds alright at full tilt. Well it sounded ok at full tilt before the cat broke.
