I want 4 piston calipers. Who cares if they're overkill. In fact, I want 6 pistons just for the hell of it.
I'm with Spencer, 993TT brakes would be hawttt.

"Just get good pads and fluid"
Eat me!
If it's so unneeded then why does Porsche now fit brakes that are so much better on to cars of similar wight and power? Just for the bling factor I guess?
If 6 piston monoblocks arent overkill for a 400hp gt3 then they arent overkill for me.

And I don't mean that as an insult. The first day I ever tracked my 944 I was all over the brakes and they were fading on me pretty bad halfway into the first session. But by that time, I began to find my "groove" and used the brakes properly. Despite having overheated them minutes before, I managed to cool them off enough such that they weren't fading anymore within a lap or two. And I was still kicking ***.

I am told all the time how stock brakes are fine for my car (350whp)

Yes, because believe it or not, there are 944's out there than can move under their own power. And once you get above hand-pushed speeds, you actually do need some mechanical assistance to stop the vehicle.

So wait.
944 N/A brakes are just fine, and anyone who wants to replace them for something bigger either:
a) doesn't know how to drive
b) is compensating for a small member
C) all of the above
Is that what you all are saying?
So, but, it's OK for someone to WANT more horsepower and translpant a 951/968/LSx motor into their car? Isn't 143hp enough by your reasoning, and you should just tell them to learn how to drive or quit over-compensating?
I'm just trying to follow the logic train here..............

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it's D) None of the above.
The discussion started about the size of the brake pads which quickly evolved into a discussion about the effectiveness of the stock brakes. Odds are (IMHO, of course!) if you're overdoing your stock brakes, there is either something wrong with the brakes or something wrong with your driving style which has you on the brakes too much. Yes, there are exceptions, but the odds aren't in favor of them.
As for whether or not someone wants big brakes (or more power or whatever) by all means go for it. (Even if it's just for looks, I think that drilled brakes look great!) Just keep in mind that the performance benefits from your bigger brakes on a sub-150 hp car probably won't be as noticable as the performance benefits from bigger power.

If I had an N/A first thing I would do is upgrade to turbo brakes. Why not? They are cheap.
