Default Need help deciding what a 1987 951 is worth help please!

Hey guys,

I sold my 1989 944 NA about two years ago and have been missing it ever since. I always wanted a turbo but, never could afford a good one. It seems the prices have come down quite a bit in the last few years (maybe because of economy?) but, I found a 1987 944 turbo with only 55k miles on it for $6500. Two years ago that would have been a steal but, now I am not so sure. What would you say the average price on a 87 951 with 55k miles would be? It had timing belt/water pump done at 30k (2 years ago). Its also in pretty good shape (nice paint, no dents, etc).

Thanks for your help!

well of course maintenance is where all of the $$ is. for a 22 year old car that only has 55k miles on it, a lot of the rubber bits will probably need to be replaced if not already. But i'd say if the car looks good, and has had suficcient maintenance in the past, then go for it at that price. i'm sure the interior must be immaculate with that low of miles!

p.s. i also sold my NA about 2 years ago and just got an '87 951!

yikes... that makes it a questionable buy in my opinion. does your budget allow to go through the car and replace everything that needs it? do you have the time? resources?

you may want to search and read the "no cheap porsche's" thread...

If it's a current daily driver, you're probably golden. If it's been sitting in a garage, you won't know what's going to break into pieces and fly off unless you get in there and really check it out.

That's a good price IMO for an 87 w/ low miles. If it is clean, good paint, good interior, and has received normal service the price could be anywhere from $6500 to $8000

Assuming very good physical condition (paint, interior, body panels) to go with those low miles I'd have to say $6500 is a steal. Then again it all depends on where you are located too. But given you are in Raleigh, I'd stick to my "it's a steal" comments. The economy is still pretty darn good here and 951s are pretty rare.

BTW, I know of a decent '84 911 for sale locally, green over tan and only $11000 to boot with a recent top end rebuild and new transmission. Its not mine but one I've been thinking about.

If the cosmetics are good and it's not been too abused, it's a good deal regardless of any records. Check oil for milk, clutch play, leaks, etc. Then if you buy it... belts, wp, and fluids change. Which if you can tie your shoes, you should be able to perform.

I just picked up a nice 87 with 130k all records from birth for 5500, so if it has that low of miles you should already have it in your garage, and sending us pix of your new toy! I still tuck mine in at night
