Default "Welded in" Harness Bar.

Hey guys. I was looking at getting a bar welded into the rear of the car to create a mounting point for two harnesses, and to perhaps increase rigidity.

Am I nuts? Bad Idea?

Why not just buy a bolt-in harness bar in case you ever need to remove it?

I vote for bolt in. It's plenty strong - and probably won't set your interior on fire.

Eclou has a redline bolt in bar for sale for under 400 bucks which is a heck of a deal. It is a nice bar. I use an autopower bar, but it requires drilling holes in your car for the mounting.

But, along with the whole heated debate: Will the bolt in be as strong as a custom weld-in? It being permanent isnt a problem.

Can you send a link to the Autopower bar?

Wow, 800$ is a little rough. The car's worth only twice that.

Roman, can you link me up to that Deal?

Bolt in bars are not fabricated to withstand the forces related to attaching a harness. If you are going to directly attach the harnes it needs to be a roll bar similar to the type sold by Redlineman at http://www.redlinerennsport.com/SafeguardPage.html

The bolt in harness bar is less than 500.

I bought a used Weltmeister (bolt-in) harness bar, with a camera mount attatched for $200. It is stronger than I ever imagined, and has not come loose ever for the 1 year I've owned it.

I have this too... and LOVE it. I had to buy very slightly longer bolts for it. No drilling required, went into the same bolt holes as the rear seat belts would go.

Does anyone know of a used one anywhere?

This is only going to be used for the occ. track day and an autocross season.

Thats why I dont wanna blow more than 200$ on it.

Hmm really? Do you have a picture of yours? Mine mounts much higher up, near where the top of the rear seat part would be. There was a random plastic plug on either side of the C pillars, and when I took that plug out there was already a random bolt just sitting there not holding anything in. So I used those and they worked fine. The bar fits perfectly in that area, and I couldnt get it to fit down lower where the seat belts normally are. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine...
