What is the best performance upgrades for these 944's? (1984). Also, what was the stock 0-60 time and HP rating for this car. Many websites post different things...
I want my 944 to be quicker than my E30...
Thanks,
Mike
PS. Budget is not unlimited...

Unfortunatly, forget any big HP increases unless you spend HUGE $$, you could dump $2000 into HP and not get much at all.
Best bang for your buck= better suspension!!
Just remember you bought a race car not a drag car.

I have been where you are at now and after a lot of research, I sold my 84 and bought a 87 944 Turbo, then you want even more speed after a little while and there is plenty you can do to a 951 for big HP, all it takes is money.
But, I agree with Jason, a good suspension setup and you can be quick at the track.
Good Luck

The Euro version produces 163HP and 211NM, the US version is considerably les powerful. It does 0-100KM/H (62mph) in just above 8 seconds.

I went through the same thing when I had my 83 and again with my 91 S2. I spent big bucks with very little results.
The NA 944 is a very hard car to increase horsepower without spending a small fortune. I would either sell your 944 and buy a 951 or buy a supercharger. I recently had a SFR supercharger installed and my car now makes the power that I always wanted. I have 2000 very hard mile on my car with the superchager with no problems.

If you're mostly looking for faster acceleration, and willing to sacrifice a little top end, look for the smallest diameter rear tires you can find... cheapest "HP" trick in the book, if you're close to needing tires. Your speedo / odo will be inaccurate (unless driven from front wheel), and your actual gas mileage will drop a bit. But it does the same thing as putting a _slightly_ shorter ring & pinion in the differential.

These fellers is right. You're not a pull times in these things. US spec HP is 143 @ 6200 if I remember correctly...0-60 in 7.7...None of this is accurate, especialy after 20 years, but...You'll get used to the low HP. The car will most certainly get up and go, but you really need to keep it above 4000rpm or it's a dog.

Supercharge it! But only after you change your suspension and brake set up and test the motor's condition...and replace the head gasket, fuel pressure regulator, injectors & seals, blah, blah, blah...I did and it was worth it for the 1 month before I had to sell it. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

The '84 944's speedo is driven off the front wheels. Mike, sell your 944 and buy a 951. There's some going for less than $5k now, so your out-of-pocket final expenses will be less than $3k for 10x the excitement!

In my stock 944 N/A I ran a 15.7 @ 92.3 mph and a 7.3 0 - 60. I also got a perfect launch, etc, so I think that's one of the best your gonna get out of a stock 944. And despite what everyone says, it's fun to drag these cars, as long as you preload the clutch, it won't hurt the drivetrain anymore than acellerating fast at the track will.
