i looked on vortex and there was a general consensus that widening wheels is common but difficult to do if you want to extend the lip...i dont want to run big spacers, id like some way of just increasing the lip size...

oh I bet widening the lip would be tough. I thought you just meant the barrel. I'd imagine you'd have to profile the lip again on a lathe. I'd say your better off getting something else. Unless you want to be really original.

Guys who widen their steel wheels end up painting them black usually. Maybe to hide some of the imperfections caused by the welding?

Welding alu lips and widening alu wheels is common here with trike and hot bug builders but I think prices for welding lips and smoothing welds so it can be polished, is in a pricerange of new wheels.
