Cooling fans dont come on when over heating.
Yesterday I put in a new thermo switch, and a new 120 dollar cooling fan relay. The fans still dont come on when overheating. I turned the AC on just to see if they worked and voila, the fans came on. I am almost in the red zone, and the fans still dont come on. WTF!!!

Well, I might be a genius and then again I might be a dumb**** - the board will let me know
Have you thought that maybe your Thermostat has crapped out? If it locks up in the closed position the heated water never gets to the themoswitch activating the cooling fan relay. No matter how hot the coolant the thermoswitch doesn't "know" it. The car's circuitry is set up to automatically engage the fans while driving the A/C compressor (?) Sort of a guess/stretch on that last part. But this may give a place to start. Good luck, I'll be interested in hearing the final results. -Dan

Another reason could be a lot of air in your system, have you bled it? You need to bleed it. If that isn't it, and you replace the thermostat, you could have a bad water-pump, or a blocked radiator.

A month ago I put in a brand new radiator, waterpump, thermostat, belts, oil seals. I AM STUMPED. YES I bled the system a hundred times.
I dont want to get fresh you guys but, IM really pissed with this car. NO no oil in coolant or visa versa. I am stumped completly.

I seriously need someone's help, I really do. I have no idea what to do now. And I allready spent over 1500 haveing the waterpump, thermo, radiator, oilcooler, balance shafts done.

Take the thermostat out and run the engine. If it runs at the correct temp you just found the culprit. Of course it may take a little while longer to get to operating temperature. Just because the t-stat is new doesn't mean it can't be bad.

The only suggestion I can give you is to take your car to a technician that knows the 944 series real well. If you want, I can make some phone calls and see who is closest to you. Let me know if you are interested. Good luck!

I agree with Erick that you probably put the thermostat in backwards. Of course, if it ran fine right after doing it and then it started with this problem, then it may just be a malfunctioning T-stat. After you get done tearing your hair out and cursing to the sky....THEN go remove the thermostat. Good luck

When did it start overheating? Since you did the work, or recently? Has it run fine since the belts, pump, and T-stat?
I would agree that the T-stat is in backwards, unless this just started happening.

Oh yes, I have kicked it many a time with DerSchlechtStiefel. The car has allways run hot. But never like this. And the thermostat is in the right way. IM going to try running it without the thermostat, see what happens. I would apreciate any help.

Take the two wires that go to the thermo fan switch and touch them together while the engine is running. If the fans don't go on, something is wrong with your wiring. If they do come on, I would tend to think it has something to do with what the guys were saying before...just a thought.
I'd re-tension the belts if they haven't already been done after the new installation. This is supposed to be done ~1000-2000 miles after new belt installation. If the belts are loose, they might not be turning the water pump, or allowing it to slip.
Sorry I don't have a better answer...I'll let you know if I come up with anything else.

Simple procedure:
1. If fans come on when AC is turned on wiring to fans is fine.
2. Check the thermoswitch with a dvm. It should read open when the car is cool and then switch to 0 ohms when it hits the temp. set point.
3. If it does go to 0 ohms then you have a wiring problem from the sensor.
4. If does not go to zero ohms, then either the swith is bad or it is not reaching the set point.
5. Pull the switch out of the radiator on put it in a pot of hot water and remeasure the resistance. If it reads open temp sensor bad. If it reads zero then you are getting no water flow through the radiator.
