I can get you the speedo documentation with the required notarization...but that won' t help in this case.

I'll make a call to an "enforcement" friend in the AM...we will need help on this one.

Check your PMs tomorrow.

Check OT. You may have very well been going 111mph. That could have been my fault too

Anyway, there are PLENTY of places in NoVa that measure speedometer readings, for like 75 bucks and they are norotized. Hit me up and we can go grab lunch and go to one of these places.

Assuming you don't have a really good excuse for going 111, I think your best bet is to try and plea bargain it... None of this: "I didn't see the sign" / "I wasn't paying attention" / "my speedo must be broken"...

Instead, you say: "I was really being stupid - and you caught me... but I want to make this better. Can we reduce the charge and include something like a defensive driving class?"

Again, unless you were rushing to the hospital or something, you're better off just trying to minimize the consequences. Face it - you f***ed up... and got caught.

Here's what we do in NC. Find a place with a Dyno, tell them you need a speedo calibration. What they do, is strap you down, get the car up to 70mph according to your cluster, and click print. The sheet from the dyno tells you what RPM, MPH etc it showed you at, and what the variation is from what your speedo was showing. Then you give that to a Lawyer, and he gets the charges dropped to improper equipment.

So, you're saying he should go to court and say, "The officer said I was doing 111? My speedometer only showed that I was doing 55... I guess I didn't notice I was whizzing by those other cars."

I don't think the "faulty speedo" ruse is going to help when you're doing double the speed limit.

In fact, you should be very thankful that you weren't immediately arrested and your car impounded.

'Son of a Gun' was the only cursing we were allowed to do in first grade. We had a pretty progressive teacher who thought that it was acceptable for kids to use these benign curse words once in awhile. She explained that it was a good way to show people your feelings, but that if you said it too often you would seem stupid. She maybe said "uneducated" instead of stupid, but we got the idea. So on the playground during recess everything was 'son of a gun swing set' and 'you son of a gun' yelled at whoever was a bat in kickball. One of the elderly second grade teachers couldn't help but overhear, and she flew off the handle--first at us then at our hippie teacher. That old lady is probably one of the last people alive who could work up any sense of outrage about the phrase 'son of a gun.'

You're lucky it wasn't in NOVA. I got a 1500 dollar fine + 1 year suspension of virginia driving privileges. I didn't have a VA DL so they couldn't take my license just my right to drive in VA. I worked in Dc and took the metro to work so it wasn't that big of a deal and I moved shortly there after. I was doing 109 in a 55 in my passat on 66 coming back from Dulles. Cited for wreckless driving. My cased lasted almost a year with many appeales and never got a change in judge who is hardcore anti-speeding. Though VA sucks on speeders, don't speed in VA. Be sure to get a lawyer that specializes in traffic. I used a DWI defense attorney that my friend worked for, he knew the law, but I had broken it pretty badly.
