Default F'ing SoCal drivers!!!

Ok, my car has been hit twice in the last 3 days. I got rear ended on the highway. No damage from that one. Then I come out of my hotel room only to see the front bumper pushed in on one side. Jack *** didn't leave a note or anything. Those bumper shocks are worth their weight in gold as far as I'm concerned. Judging my the marks on the bumper pad, he hit my car at an angle, so if not for the bumper shock, the fender, and lower nose would have taken some damage.

So now....how do I pull the bumper back out again? There's a hole on the bottom. Should I just hook onto that and pull it out? I obviously don't want to do any damage, but it looks like **** being pushed in.

My car isn't a show car by any means, but I'm a pissed off **** about this....

Mark, I had the same "got backed into" debacle. Mine was a college girl who the campus police tracked down for me (if you're a student with a car you're required to register it). Took my 19mm socket to break the bolt holding the bumper to the shock and started to torque on the bolt...popped back out. There's empty space - the shock goes back into the frame, nothing's being "hurt" by it being like that. Try torquing on it and it might pop back out.

I still have the spare bumper shock if you need it - I was in a wreck in October and my '85 was totaled.

I've bounced it, bumped it, smacked it...it won't come back out on its own. I think its in a bind being only side pushed in. I'll give it a tug with my buddy's truck and see what happens. I really don't think its a big deal, but it makes my stomach ache every time I look at it. I think I should be happy its only a pushed in bumper. My working in El Segundo. My Car could be GONE!! lol

I've got a spare set of shocks back in Las Vegas, but thanks for the offer.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

hey, at least you didnt back into a golfcart that you couldnt see lol.

i did. while reversing i couldnt see the body of the cart behind me because the hatch is in the way and it was somewhat dark so i couldnt see the supports for the roof and with the space in between the roof and body it looked like nothing was there. that cart was tough! it chewed up a little of my back bumper and took some of my paint off without getting a scratch!

Yea plenty of good used bumper shocks out there. I've got some if you can't find any close to home.

Ha! My mom just backed into mine last week. Just scratched the paint a little, not much damage. But it gave me a chance to say "Mom, you know how you say I don't come over to visit enough?" Then look suggestively at bumper.

just be careful "pulling" it back into place with said truck. IIRC, the bumper is made out of aluminum, and thus may bend easily. It will probably be much cheaper to take the bumper off and replace the compressed shock then to accidently bend your bumper and need to source one, and a shock.

just my $.02

If you want to pull out the bumper of push it back in here is what you do!

1. Get a half inch ratchet with an extension
2. I believe it is 19mm don't quote me
3. Get WD-40
4. Get down on your back and look under the bumper
5. You will see these bolts under it. Take your WD-40 and spray the hell out of it.
6. Take your ratchet on the side that you want to pull out and or push in and loosen it.
7. Pull or Push.

I did this to pull out my bumper I didn't push it in. It should work though.

Replace it... those bumper shocks are made to only be compressed once. If you try to pull it out, best case is it might rattle... worst cases, if someone bumps you again, they will bend your fender, headlight cover and nose panel...
