Or like me, convince yourself that you actually like it.
This is key to many things Porsche, its even worse on the air cooled side...;] Bruce

Yes, it is possible, and it should not come on. It's trivial for the CASIS to figure out that at some where around x MPH and y RPM you are in 5th gear, even with 1980s technology. I'm not sure that's how they actually do it, but it would be the logical choice (as the car doesn't have anything to tell it what gear it's in other than a reverse switch). I've never had mine come on in 5th, and I've been in plenty of situations where it would have if it were not disabled somehow.

Don't believe this was available on the turbos or S2, which would explain why you don't see it!

I believe that the only time you get this light in the gauge cluster is if you also have the MPG gauge.

i just wrote basically what the owner's manual said lol..

it says something to the extent of "CASIS is intended to aid in slow driving in achieving optimum fuel economy by taking into account engine speed and load and determining when shifting to a higher gear would increase fuel economy. CASIS is disabled in fifth gear" how it figures MPH at least on early car i have no idea as its just a cable with no computerage, on a late car i can imagine a possibility for the electronic speedo pickup...

Then I probably misunderstood what you mean.

In any case, I didn't know CASIS was even available pre-85.5.

You shouldn't turn it off....How would you feel? What if God just decides to "turn off" one of your eyes?

fyi - my 87S has it and no mpg gauge.

What the hell are you guys talking about? I love that light.

I love it so much I wired in a HUGE tachometer from Autozone with a giant red CASIS light. I also installed underglow lights and a 4 foot wing.

Holla!

Don't forget to lower your car by heating up the shocks, put a fake fire extinguisher on your A-Pillar, and put a white hood your red car.

Default Mixed feelings

My 85.5 had one and I didn't have any idea for the first 5 years I owned the car until one day when it and the MPG indicator began working. I was weirded out at first though because it looked exactly like the shift indicator in my neighbor's 86 Ford Escort. That was a bit disappointing to say the least.

The one in my Audi will flash even when I'm in 5th gear!
