stereo wiring
I was trying to install speakers and an amp last night and couldn't figure out where to pass the wires.
For the amp, I need some sort of hole through the firewall. I pulled the carpet and wooden board up on the passenger floorboard, but didn't see any holes through the firewall. Where are they?
I also was looking at the speaker wiring. Is the carpet that's on the inside where the flexi-rubber-thing (sorry if I'm being too technical ) from the door connects glued on or is it removable? I couldn't find any screw holes or anything, and I didn't want to start ripping until I knew.
Oh, one other thing, is it easy to get the rear seats out? How do they come out?
Thanks.

Ok. There is a rubber plug in the firewall behind the battery. This is where the window-antenna wire runs through. I put the 12v wire through this hole.
For the speaker wire, that section of carpet is glued down...but removeable. If you remove it, simply glue it back in place.
For the rear seats (I assume you're putting in subs...the bottoms leave gunk if you remove them. The seat back bolts in place I'm pretty sure.

Thanks Robert, I'll go searching again on Saturday. I hope I don't have to remove the dash (I have airbags).
Actually, I was going to pop the rear off to see if it provided a decent amp mount surface on one side and a sub mount point on the other, but now I might go back to my idea of mounting the amp on the rear passenger floorboard. Only problem is it's 13" by 14", so with the amp there, the seat doesn't go back far enough to comfortably seat anybody above 5'10". Of course I don't plan on driving many men around, and most women are short enough to fit.

Yes it comes out up behind the glovebox. I recommend installing the amp UNDERNEATH the passenger front seat. There is enough clearance for most amps, and it doesn't keep your seet from moving forwards or back.

12" x 13" x 3".
It's a 4-channel (well 2 and a bridge for me), so it has a lot of guts.
I'm beginning to miss my Corolla and it's spaciousness. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I finally had some time to look at it again...
Which firewall hole should I go through?
C is hidden behind the negative terminal in this pic?

Once everything is done. Seal it up with some silicone. This will prevent rubbing on the metal and keep moisture out. Also, I'm sure you know, put a fuse inline within 18" of the battery.

I stuffed about eight feet of cable into that hole, but couldn't see any of it below the dash.
I'll try pulling the glove box out next.
This is a very aggravating install...

if you use that hole, the wire does have to angle down very quickly or it will end up in the glove box. just stuff a bit in the hole and see if you can grab it and pull it where you need to. this is the hole i used for my install, tho i just worked with the grommet that was already there. just enlarged it a bit so i could fit the amp wire in there too
