How to change your timing belt (pics)
Okay that last thread people here were too scared to change their timing belt so it's 6pm right now and I decided to put my car on stands in the garage and start replacing my timing belt.
I'll get my camera out and take pics at various stages and post them. I'm really lazy and work extremely slow so I won't be finishing it tonight for sure. I don't want to drive yet anyways cus theres still too much snow on the ground.

lol don't love me yet. I'm not sure what kind of pictures you guys want to see.
tdc pics? I'll try to take pics I think will help.
by the way I'm by no way a real mechanic or a pro lol. I have replaced belts twice though but I had the tension checked and I'm still nervous replacing the belts.

lol. no this is my third time taking the belts off. i did the pump and all the oil seals the first time also.
if anyone is interested about tensioning the belts with the kricket I did some measure of the tbelt before taking it off. My readings seem to contradict the directions for using the kricket and what some people here told me.
I assume my tbelt is at the correct tension right now becuase It is 2 years old and it only has 20,000 kms on it and was retensioned after the 2,000 km interval at my porsche shop.
anyways I do get a reading of 40 pounds consistently on my kricket for the tbelt but this is when it is at tdc. when I move it back a tooth and half before tdc (turning crankshaft counterclockwise) the tension on the long span drops like expected but my tbelt now gives a reading of 30 pounds.
I noticed this last time also when doing my belts. there is a 10 pound drop in tension when you move the crank counterclockwise a tooh / half.
so if i follow the directions for using the kricket (setting it to 40 pounds 1.5 teeth before tdc), the tension would be 50 pounds at tdc.
this is also on a stone cold engine so when the engine warms up the tension goes up.
my reading of my belt before taking it off says 40 pounds is the reading it should be at tdc not when you move teh crank backwards and reduce the tension on the long span.
I did follow the before tdc directions before and teh tension on the long span at tdc measured to 5o pounds and when teh engine warmed up the tension felt crazy tight so I'm pretty sure i'm correct on this.
kricket seems to be fairly accurate as I keep on getting 38-40 pound readings (estimate) on the kricket when it is at tdc and 30 pounds when moved back a tooth and half counterclokckwise.
I'll post my pics later on today....

hmm found out something else also. when I tried putting the kricket on the balance shaft belt over one of the raised teeth it would not read at all and give me a false reading (arm raised all the way). this is the method i have read you're suppose to use.
now when I put the kricket in between two teeth it does give me a reading although probably not very accurate but still. It would give me a reading of just under 30 pound which seems right for a balance shaft belt......
I tried it 5 times with the kricket in between two teeth vs on top of a tooth of the balance belt and like this it worked and kept on giving me a reading of just under 30 pounds. so it works at least for getting a somewhat close estimate. you don't want to go over 30 pounds so as long as you get it to just below 30 pounds you should be close to the proper tension.

I never understood the whole avatar women thing. Is it just to show off you're attracted to them and not gay? Are you that excited to not be homo? lol
Just seems kind of pointless, especially with the recent ****storms on other boards about them.
Especially when you get the 50 year old men derailing threads with "oh man brah I'd totally do her"

you want me to change it lol? I can change it to a picture of bob saget if you like.
I got tired of having the same avatar for so long (of my car) so I'm waiting to get another nicer picture of my car until then you'll have to deal with this picture.
