Gas smell in the car
OK ill try to explain it as best as i can... lately ive been smeeling gas inside the car but it only happends when i open the windows and after i fill up the gas tank full when im driving the car with the windows up i dont smell nothing at all but once i lower the windows while driving the smell is strong with gas i looked around the injectors and i dont see any signes of leaking or anywhere on the engine but its getting worse now when the car is 1/2 empty the smell is not as strong as when it is full... anyone???

I'm no expert but...
As far as I know there's a flexible pipe between the gas filler cap and the tank and when filling up Full, there can be some leakage.
So if the smell is occuring only after filling up full then suspect the clamps on the filler tube.

I have the same issue but under different circumstances. I dont notice the gas smell until after it is parked in the garage for a while. I'm interested to read what you find out.

I'd say 50% of my knowledge comes from reading these threads rather than real life (thank god for fundamentally reliable cars!), so try doing a search on here for "gas smell" and "gas leak" and I think you'll find some useful info. its certainly not an uncommon issue.

This problem can be a tough one. My car has had this problem on occasion and I've checked all the hoses/vent hoses, etc. and just can't track it down. Good luck. Please let us know if you have any 'eureka' moments...

A piece of (potentially) relevant input... I've had a similar problem: When the windows are closed or full open its all fine - if I half open any windows exhaust smells come in.
This is because of the boot not sealing properly and exhaust gases coming in through there when the pressure changes. It could be that the gas smell comes from somewhere at the back of the car

The bottom line is that if all is in good order, the fuel tank and fill assembly is 100% sealed from the cabin. Anything less is simply dangerous, and indicates something that is broken.
Do you really think that these cars stunk like gas inside when you put too much in when they were new?
