Post Something BAD actually happened at the 944Fest

After all the fun at the 'Fest, I have now digressed into full bummed out mode, as I don't think anything can be done about my problem. As anyone who has seen the interior on my n/a can attest, after 274K more-than-meticulously maintained miles it is close to perfect in condition and all original except shift boot and pedal rubber. This includes the seats which are supple and perfect, or should I say WAS. For reasons of which I don't have much of a clue, the passenger seat now has an area that runs the length of the seat bottom and about 8 inches wide that is hard, faded and brittle, like it aged ten years overnight. I had the sunroof out all day Sunday and a little rain got on the seats on Saturday, but these causes don't seem likely. I have always used a silicone-based protectant on the seats (but sparingly) and have never really used any conditioners on the leather as they have really shown no signs of needing it. I tried a couple of apps of a leather/cleaner that I had in the garage, but absolutely no improvement. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, but, like I said before, I don't hold out hope because of the contrast between the extremely good looking seat and the extremely bad looking area. It sounds corny, but my emotional bond to this car is deep, and I feel like I let her down. Harry, I now feel your pain! TIA.

Wade... you can snag my extra 1/2 used bottle of Griots leather rejuvinator. It did wonders on my brittle, garage dried out leather.

We'll hook up soon and I will bring it. Don't put any weight on it, and by all means, cover it up with a towl so light does not dry it out further. A car that perfect with that many miles deserves a little extra effort!!

Hi Wade-

We met briefly @ the Fricker's GTG. I remember your car I can't believe the miles on the odo. Anyway try some of this stuff. It is the real deal, buddy used it on his 928 and I could not believe the difference.

You've seen my seats. Get the upholstery from Travis at rennbay.com and I'll help you do 'em.
In one afternoon it'll look like a brand new car.

Leatherique is the way to go; try that first.

Sounds to me that the silicone based reacted with the sun and then the water.

I would try to recondition before replacing with plastic seats.
