How to make an NA faster
#76
Do like I did on my mustang. Flip the exhaust manifold upside down, and make a short pipe. One end goes on the header, one end has a T3 flange. Bam insta-turbo manifold. Or get a log manifold kit from JGS. You would either have to use your original flanges, or find Porsche ones(GOOD LUCK!).
Ethanol is super-bitchin but not everyone can get it. You can things like mix in some Toulene(sp?) but thats pricey. As is race gas. Water injection is the best bet. What are the CR on the NA cars? Seen 10:1 on boost. It's all in the tune. Quit worrying about which gas or what headers and think about standalone. Megasquirt is 200ish. I can find the "megasquirt killer" for 300 something bucks.
Also you can notch the head. No real hardcore evidence but a Volvo guy gets less ping doing it.

And like I said, with a T3, low boost(5-7psi), water injection(if your that scared), and an intercooler, you get 200+whp and a fun as hell car.

LOL! I'd call that a remote turbo. And I love that logo on the side of the car!
I don't think a 944 header can be mounted upside down. The headers are really long, unlike some cars where it basically just runs along the head area. It would definitely hit the strut tower.

It did get clocked. Second pic shows the new stance. It isn't my car. I am doing a similar setup. It is my friend Adam's car. Budget stuff. I think less than $1500 and 300+whp.
I took a look at the header today on the Porsche. It is long. And a 4-2-cat setup lol. What I would do is a log manifold kit.

They sell the goods. Everything but flanges for our cars. I figure get fancy with a sawzall, cut up a factory header for the flanges and weld them up. Did the math. Came to 120 bucks and change for one. If I could get a good hold on the tuning for one of these "kits" I would throw one together. Seems like with out standalone.
I can see it working on premium gas and a rising rate FPR. I just don't want to test this on this car. Maybe in spring I will get myself a test mule. I see so much potential with these cars.
