Default FS: Powdercoated N/A intake manifold

This will fit all early N/A 944'ss but NOT 87-on 944's or 924S's (I learned this the hard way, hence the sale). Apparently early cars have a different fitting for the idle control valve...its underneath the manifold, who would've known?

Anyway, this manifold was cleaned and powdercoated silver and looks fantastic - it's really amazing the effect that it can have on underhood appearance. I've gotten compliments from everyone who's seen it. I'm really only looking to re-coup expenses on this - asking $90 obo (cost me $40 for the manifold used + $50 for cleaning and powdercoating). Buyer pays actual shipping or I can deliver anywhere in the tri-state region or most of New England.

Pictures will be posted shortly

sorry for the delay - below is a quick picture of the manifold as well as a picture of the manifold that is on my car (looks identical) to give you an idea of how this would look on your car

Thanks Roman! It hasn't always looked that good (I'm a little embarassed to show the "before" pictures haha) and I've gotta say, the manifold was a big part of the change

I was thinking you could make either one work with a different elbow hose or something. I know someone has done this before...Bruce

Spoolin - are you sure your car doesn't ahve the early engine? I know 85.5's are kinda goofy cars (early offset, late interior, etc) so it might work for you

Even if you don't, you could probably make it work with a little time and hose...I just chose not to bother because I had access to a very good, reasonably priced powdercoater, a couple weeks where the car was going to be inoperable anyway (bodywork), and a free manifold that I knew would fit.

thanks for the info - its a little wierd that Porsche would even bother making such a small change as I'm sure it involved some re-tooling at the factory, and I don't see why moving the tube like that would really make a difference...

Just an FYI here: The intakes changed in 85.5, so all 83-85 944's and all 924s's have the early intake and all 85.5-88 944's have the later style intake. The placement of the tube is the only diffrence. I dont recomend trying to put an early intake on a late car as the hose required is rather expensive.

Godspeed, I'm sorry but that's just not correct - 924S has the LATE style intake. This is an EARLY style intake that is for sale because it didn't fit my car (924S). I bought this from DC Auto to powdercoat and install, but when it didn't fit, I sent the original manifold to be powdercoated and am trying to sell this to recoup my expenses on it.

Fitting this intake to a late style car would involve doing something custom with generic rubber hose - not at all expensive, but possibly a bit complicated. For early cars, however, this will bolt directly on quite easily.

Also, I don't know where you're shopping for parts, but Pelican has the hose for the late cars for $15

My mistake. I thought the 924s basicly had the early 944 engine bay.

I did just this. I had an early intake that I had powdercoated. Since my 85.5 has the late engine, It was a big pain to try to rig it togeather with generic hose. When I priced the early hose off of pelican I seem to recall it being 80-90 dollars. I ended up just having my stock one powdercoated and sold the early one I had on here.

True, if anyone here with an 83-85 944 wants a nice and pretty intake this is a very easy swap.

Since this is an early intake it will require an early intake hose, not a late one. As I mentioned above, the early hose is more expensive.

Not trying to be a pain, just sharing some info so no fellow 'listers make the same mistakes I did. Good luck with the sale.

thanks - sorry if my previous post came across as somewhat abrasive. Yes, the 924S has (basically) a late 944 engine, early suspension, late offset wheels, early interior...its tough to make sense of it all for sure.

I agree this manifold would be best suited to someone with an early 944 who wants to clean up their engine bay, but its not impossible for someone with a late car to fit it. I didn't realize the early hose would be that expensive - I can't find it up there any more. Buying generic vacuum hose could probably work too for much less than $80-90, but i can't recommend any good way of doing that

Anyway, glad we got it all cleared up - I think the more info that's out there, the better - if I had known that N/A manifolds were different early/late, it would have saved me a fair bit of hassle.
