Post Which is the best looking 944 type of car?

With all this talk about how "gorgeous" those ricey new Nissan 300Z cars are, I'm curious as to other Rennlisters' preferences on how these cars (should) look.

In your opinion, which is the best looking 944 car you've ever seen?

Personally:

I like C2T wheels, no splitter, no ground effects rocker panels, possibly a 968 wing, factory rear bottom spoiler and (I'm biased, of course) the "low slung" look of the cabriolets.

I like the turbo/S2 look in white.
With Technology, 993 Cup, or BBS LM/Fikse FM10 type wheels.
I'm not a fan of the 968 wing at all.
968 mirrors and door handles, OTOH, are good.

Sorry, Luis, but 944/968 cabs just don't have that "fastback" look. MHO.

I think we can all agree that the center light panel between the brake lights makes for a very dated look.

I'd say the best looking 944 is the S3, like mine!

I stick with the classic NA with Fuchs, silver or white, wheels can be black or body color. IIRC there were Fuchs with the centers painted stone grey met one year, bet they'd look amazing on a silver car! I sure as hell wouldn't mind a 924 Carrera GTS either.
I also like the 968 front end (at the other end of the spectrum) but the back end is the worst part of the 24/44/68 series.

One thing I've often wondered is why the turbos got a redesigned front end without any change to the rear?

I have an NA, and although I think the front and rear bumpers look a bit dated, I think they look fine. However, I think the redesigned look up front and the older, bumper-pad, design in the back looks a bit odd on the turbo. For lack of a better word, it strikes me as "unbalanced."

I think all the 924/944/968 cars look great, and the looks have held up well over a quarter of a century. My vote for the best goes to the 968.

I totally agree that the 951/S2s look unbalanced. I LOVE the nose, but hate the rear. Very dated, IMO. My obviously partial vote goes to the 968. I love the tapered hood and bulging front fenders.

No we can't! I have it on my car, and while at first, I didn't like it, now I like it better than the stock rear. But then again, my favorite music is '80's rock/new wave/punk!

But what 944 series do I think looks best? The 968. Second is the 951/S2 body. (With or without the dreaded rear lens panel!)

I like the cab. It gets rid of the oversized rear glass.

Ahh,
Remember why the nose was changed on the 951...
It was for better aero dynmaics and for proper mouting of the intercooler. Up until the 90's Porsche design changes were less about styling and more about improvements. Once a car was designed by Porsche the basic shape and styling remained basicly the same. The only change made were to improve performance in one way or another, not really to enhance styling. The 951 is really a product of the end of that era.

Also don't forget the under body diffuser added to the 951 to improve aerodynanics.

This styling philosphy realy began to change with 968. To my mememory it was the first significant styling departure for any Porsche model. This was followed by the changes to the 964 to become the 993 and evnetually the 996.

To me this one of the reasons Porsche styling has been some timeless. Rearely have they felt the need to visually update a car just for the marketplace.

Just for the opposing view, I think the NA has the best look. If the bumpers make it look dated, so what. I'm a product of the 70s & 80s too.

The turbo nose doesn't look bad, it just seems to homogenize the car and make it look more like an old RX7. The 968 is OK too, but it's a morph of the 928 and 944 and I prefer the originals.

Bottom line for me is the entire line-up is good-looking, but I prefer the classic NA.
