I feel it is a good deal as he is a well known painter and comes very hgihly recommended, he is enthusiastic about the job and has ALOT of experience.

OK I am done for the night, time for some wine.

Thanks for all responses so far.

My full respray (which included everything that yours does except I had the fenders removed and two major rust areas repaired) was $7200.

I say go for it. If this is what you want then so be it. I think the price is fair and if you've see his work you have a good idea what to expect. I have been looking for someone to do my car,but the person I picked doesn't want any part of it. Someday it will happen !! I've got a 60k car that is almost perfect and want to keep it that way. Good luck. On a side note, be sure to get a completion date or this kind of thing gets put on the back burner while he makes $$ doing normal work.

It sounds maybe a little too good... That sounds like an awful lot of labor to do what you describe. Is an 'after hours' free lance kind of deal? But if he has good references it sounds real tempting, especially since you plan to keep the car. I would ask what kind of paint system and brand he will use and then do a little research on them. As for paint durability, I think the modern catylized urethanes with clear coat are better starting materials than what the factory had at the time. Technology marches on, even in auto paint.

My 944 re-spray to Lexus color 077 starshine pearl with about $1500 of body work was ~$9000. This is a tri-coat, base, pearl and clear. It does look great, but this price sounds cheap.

It sounds like it is worth it to you and that's all that should matter.
Besides from what others here have post it sounds like a fair deal, if you like his work bring him the car!

I am planning a thread for next week documenting all of mods and repairs to my wife's 944. You'll just have to wait a few days.

He said this to you after you offered to give him the car for bodywork/paint? I hope that was a dead giveaway to not use this guy.
