Does anyone feel that a 7psi differential is a bit excessive? Could these factory inflation pressures be based on old tire technology?! I ran a set of Michelin XGT-H4's at the factory 29F/36R psi religiously and rotated them at proper intervals and I found my rears to high spot (wear in the center more than on sides). So I dropped the pressure down to 32 psi and tire wear was more even. Often running at highway speeds the rear pressures read in at 40psi warm when set initially at 36psi cold. I currently run Bridgestone Potenza RE950's and Discount Tire Co. set all four at 32 psi. I have approx. 2k miles on them and they look great.
I welcome any responses.

I had the same issues with my cooper cobra's in the rear, set at 35psi. There was a wear spot right down the middle after I put them on. I now run 31 cold all 4 corners and it feels a bit better.
NEVER depend on those crappy on pump gauges they are not very accurate!!

I like to run 30 psi cold all around for the sake of ride comfort (Falken Azenis tires). Even for autocross, I set them at 33 psi cold all around, which works out to about 37-38 psi hot. Of course, since I get only about 5000-6000 miles out of a set and autocross frequently, I haven't been able to observe any street-only wear patterns.

I have been told that the reason for 29 psi in the front and 36 psi in the rear is to promote understeer. The lower pressure up front actually reduces traction of the front tires. Why this is done, I don't know???
At my first autocross someone suggested that better handling on a stock 944 NA is achieved by running 36 psi all around. That's what I'm doing now. However, I don't have enough track experience to say how much a difference it makes. With the same 215/60 tires all the way around and 50/50 weight distribution, I believe that running equal tire pressures all the way around gives more neutral handling.

Depends on your tires!
If you run 215 wide all around as I do, I find that 24 psi front 26 rear gives optimum tire bearing on the road for my winter tires (Nokian Q's, based on braking patterns). For summer (the junky BFGoodrich I got it with) I run 28 & 30 for better cornering.
A lot of local people run a size smaller in front with 944's, and use equal pressure all around. Our local PCA meets prohibit less than 30.
