Value of a N/A Parts Car
Hey Im rolling around the idea of buying an N/A parts car. It hasnt been registered since 2003, and the owner claims it has a clean title, but just a bad clutch. I know all about the clutch jobs and how difficult they can be.
Im seeing two options, fix it and flip it, or part it. If I fix it Ive gotta pull the motor and do the clutch, and the belts/waterpump to even hope for a buyer. Dont know if the car buyers market will want a 944 right now.....
The other option is I part it, there isnt anything special about it, so I dont know how much money I could really get for a plain old 84 944....(its red - this means its fast right?) I could certainly use tons of odds and ends off of it for my early car...
He'll sell the whole car for 500. Is that too much?

how good is the rest of the car? decent paint/interior? if those are good then 500 is a good price IMO. another ~$500 for clutch/beltjob and you could probably sell it for $2k and make a healthy profit.

I bought my early 85 for 2500 in pretty good condition. The interior was just okay, but there wasn't anything broken or missing. Had original "guards red" paint, but sun-fade turned to "eczema orange", and a crooked bumper (nothing more than a collapsed shock). Other than these things, I thought it was a good deal...but i didn't shop around much.

$500 for a running '84 sounds good to me. It does run, right? A running 2.5L should be worth $500 alone. Have you looked at the option codes? Does it have an LSD trans (code 220)? If so, count on another $750+. If not, $200. After that, all the parts you need are free.
If that sucker was near me and it runs, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. Sounds like a good basis for a 944 Spec racer. . .

Other than the clutch being out, its running, but have not attempted to start it. I honestly doubt it would start right up - and I wouldnt want to without first changing out the t-belt. haha

Totally worth it.
I bought a running 86 for $500 with a busted transmission and have almost made my money back in just wheels, dash, radiator, and misc parts. I plan on selling whats left of it (which is still mostly all there) for $400.
So either way, go for it. Just note that if you do decide to fully part it out, you will need a LOT of space to store all the parts and stuff until they are sold.

i managed to start my car after it had sat for 6 years by changing the fuel pump, putting in some fresh gas, a new battery and new plugs. ran fine on the old belt too, but 2 weeks later the HG blew lol. TB still looked fine to me.

Sounds like a good spec car donor candidate. You know it wants to race... All 944's are race cars just waiting to find a loving owner to unleash them on the track.
