Won't work. Tried it.
hmm... it worked for me. Maybe you need more brute force - I don't think you could damage them if you were using a nicely sized allen.

More tools never hurt though.

I used an AMP 305183 pin romoval tool that I got at a specialty electronics store near me. Its funny because I brought in a mirror plug I had that someone had given me with a spare flag mirror and the guy who worked there immediately took me to this tool and showed me how it worked and asked me what the plug was for and then replied that he bet AMP made the pins for it, well when I got home and was using the tool I noticed on the pins they had "AMP" stamped on them.

If you can't find one I would be willing to pick one up and mail it to you, but they are pretty easy to find online. It basically slides down the hole and then you push the plunger on the back and it pops it out no problem.

Before I go buying things, I need a second opinion. Does it look like this will work? The tips look a little funny...

I have one of those, the tips are basically a small copper tube cut lengthwise. Theres different size tips made of different size tubes.

It's so rare to find someone in retail that knows what the hell they are talking about. When you actually do find someone like this guy its amazing, and you've used up all of your luck for the next several months.

Can you confirm if that's THE tool as there are several that look alike.

Yep that is the tool. 305183 is the exactly number on mine, I just double checked to be sure. It is so easy to use that I found myself reinstalling the pins just so I could pop them back out again with the tool. Make sure you make a little drawing of the plug and which colored wires go where for when you reinstall.

It's so nice to be able to put everything back together as it should be and not have to cut the wires and splice them together like so many people do.

Just for archive purposes, the AMP 305183 is the tool to remove the pins from the connector. Took all of about 2 minutes and then messing with the wires to get them out. Thanks Colin!

SeaCay, did you get my PM?

No prob, just don't want someone to have to start a whole new thread. If anyone needs the tool, I can pick it up to save you guys on the shipping. For some reason they only have a $40 international shipping charge...
