Torque oil pan bolts again and again?

Torque oil pan bolts again and again?
Just want to make sure I don't have an issue. Got the pan back on and started to torque per clark's. After first trip around, when I got back to center bolts, they where completely loose. So I went around again and same thing. It took until the 6th time before the center bolts stayed torqued. Does that sound right? Also, when fully torqued, will the pan be snugged up against the pan gasket insert spacers, or is there supposed to be some crush left to the gasket?

I think I went around like 12 times torqueing the bolts for each torque setting.
This is a job worth taking the time to do right because its a PITA to do if u eff it up.
The center bolts loosen up as the tension is spread throughout the pan

I have done about 4-5 oil pan gaskets and they always go like this. Never had a leaker either.
