Time for the end of season oil change, and I've been thinking about how the first rush of oil when I release the drain plug always comes out with such force that it slops over the side of the pan until it settles down into a steady stream.

So here's the idea. What if I leave the oilfill cap in place when I release the drain plug. Will the lack of a good vent help me out or make it worse? It can't hurt anything to try it this way, or can it? Thanks in advance,

yeah but prolly by not too much. Since there is already much air in the system that wants the quickest way out! but Hey give it a try!

I changed the oil with the cap on, on my 944s, and it still shot out like a foot.

 

there is another trick that honda guys introduced me to. take a plastic quart milk container and chop off the bottom. then cut two hole on adjoining sides. one hole big enuff to go around the drain port, other hole big enuff for your fingers to go thru and reach the drain plug

get the plug finger loose, then put the milk container with the drain port hole up against the drain port. take the drain plug loose thru the other hole you cut. oil stream should gush out against the side of the milk container and run down and out the bottom where hopefully you have the catch container.

 

Sure, but then you have ANOTHER oily container to contend with. If it's me, I'll drop THAT thing and splatter oil around.

 

krystar thats a good idea. But greg has a point. Not another oily container?? argg! but hey I like the logic behind it!

 

that's why i suggested fomoto valve in the first place hehe.

 

Just before you pull the plug, lift up the empty oil pan to just under the bolt. After the initial pulse of oil, lower the pan to the floor. Rocket science!

 

I have that fumoto oil drain valve, makes my oil changes super easy, no new gasket to use or risk stripping my oil drain plug.

 

Yeah really, this is what I do. I even tilt the pan about 30 degrees to catch that stream. Rocket launched!

 

Its easy. Just park one side of the car over a curb, and position it stratgically over a sewer drain. Loosen the drain plug and get the hell out of there
