Did you try cursing at it?

At jiffy lube they use these oil filter wrenches called Gator Jaws. Its about 2 feet long and has offset teeth that grab onto oil filters, You could loosen axle nuts with it. I believe the teeth were cast iron/hardened steel. So is your filter completely gone except for the base and threaded part?

The bottom of the filter if its visible should have holes in for the oil to drain out of the filter. Try putting a flathead in there and tapping it with a hammer. Wedge the tip of the flathead in part of one of the holes and just angle it so the force of the blow is trying to rotate it mostly CCW. You could also try spraying air duster upside down on the rubber gasket to deteriorate it. It sounds like the PO overtightened it and the gasket is the part that makes the threads tighten up in the center.

 

i used your screwdriver idea carbine... no luck. i think im close to the world record of longest oil change

 

did you ever try turning the handles of the waterpump pliers with the screwdriver?? you need two people.

Have you tried tapping at an angle along the bottom of the oil filter (hopefully it has a lip on it) with a flat screwdriver and mallet. Go down along the body of the filter. Pierce the sidewall and let the screwdriver blade angle in the loosening direction.

Just sort of tap tap tap to slowly start some rotation. Do not gouge thru to the base.

I've had this happen on several cars. The oil filter...especially a tall one like ours...will just oil can and wrinkle with too much torque. Have also used the screwdriver thru the filter trick.

At least yours stays on - mine keep coming unscrewed. I find out by noticing an excessively large oil puddle under the car compared to its usual leakings.

 

Who was the last person to put the oil filter on?

Sometimes when people sell their cars, they like to beat on them etc etc....
Sometimes they are evil, and put locktite on oil filters, drain plugs......

Hey at least your car isn't a transformer and the oil filter isn't really it's left nut.

 

so does anybody have ideas for cutting the bottom of the filter off? its my last option before i kill the car.

An assortment of pictures (sorry camera phone pics) the last one is like a game of where's waldo.. im not sure if its so tight because of the engine swap or if it's just like that..

 

Too bad it's an S2, if it was an 8v you could've remove the exhaust manifolds and oil cooler assembly so you can take out what's left of the filter. Then do the seals while you're in there.

Maybe you could still try something like that; I never worked on that part of an S2 before.

 

Why not cut/tear away the remaining outer metal, then with a screw driver in the little filter holes tap it with a hammer to slowly turn it.

Also loosen the clamp on the P/S reservoir and lift it off to the side, it will give you more room to work.

 

Hammer + screwdriver and tapping will work. If it doesn't, I really don't see how it will come off with anything less than a giant pipewrench.

 

actually the drain holes + hammer didnt work... thats the problem haha.. this is really messed up.. i think its super glued!
