stuck oil filter?

I know the problem... look around your car and you'll probably find a sticker that says: WAL-MART TIRE LUBE EXPRESS!!!
All i can say is try that cap type wrench if you are still able to put one on (they are only $5) and try getting it off with a torque wrench and extension

I can sympathize with you. After buying my 944s a few weeks ago the first thing I did was an oil change and it took me hours. The oil filter, drain plug and even the filler cap were overtightened. I weigh 225 and was on my back with legs braced and it was still pulling me across the floor trying to take out the drain plug. I thought for sure it was going to strip but luckily it came out ok. For the oil filter I was lucky enough to get it off with a socket cap setup...the strap style wouldn't do it. Can you believe I actually had to clamp boards to the filler cap to get 8-10" of leverage to get the darned thing off? Eeesh....I don't know what people are thinking sometimes.

No!!!!!! haha. Is there any way you can take the assembly containing the oil filter screw off the engine block? I thought someone just recently had to replace the gasket under it... maybe i'm wrong, i don't know

just a couple of ideas....heat or cold: with heat and a lot of caution you should be able to get it off. i saw a tool not long ago ($$$) that was essentially a heating wire that is used to wrap around stuck/rusted bolts. it heats them, you pop the nut. also an idea (i'm brainstorming): CRC freeze off.
both ideas are assuming they be thought out and acted on with patience and caution.

If all else fails, I have used a LARGE screwdriver, put the tip on the filter, puncture/crush it a little bit, then swing the screwdriver so it's tangent with the filter, and use a hammer on the end of the screwdriver to knock the filter loose from that puncture spot.

I'm still in college so I can use words like tangent. Though I suppose if the screwdriver penetrates the circumference of the cylindrical filter, it's not a tangent, it's a secant!
If you think about it, even the every-day meaning of the word 'tangent' means the same thing, a path that goes away from where you are but was at one point connected.
Sorry to go off on a tangent.
