I'm mildly interested in this... the parts seem a heck of a lot cheaper then a 944/951 and from what I hear they are reasonably reliable. (and I have been looking for a winter beater in the 1K range)

1982 931

this is a great car! runs and drives great and needs no work to put on the road. mechanic owned and many improvements such as brand new koni shocks and 944 rear swaybar. car needs to go price is firm but worth it.

1,500.

What do you guys think

They're great fun... some parts are cheaper than early 944, some are the same... and then there's a few unobtainable parts...

Get it, get a 951 IC, and crank the boost...

Great cars! don't know what it is about the 931 but it always reminds me of when I had my Audi Quattro Turbo - I wish I still had that car, so much fun.

You should buy it and sell me the header panel.

go for it

if its as good as he says it is then youre in for a blast

the 931 has the same compression as the 951 so it could handle alot more boost than the 10-12psi its at stock...a modern intercooler, maybe give it modern electronic fuel injection...

Sweet . I'm just afraid it will be a money pit or I will want to mod it. If its as fast as a n/a but has the turbo sound (one of the big reasons I love turbocharging ) I will take it. I loved driving my n/a thru NY winters.. this could be fun

Its faster than an N/A, it will be a money pit and you will want to mod it... now go buy the thing already and we'll see you at 924.org

And yes you will love the sound of the turbo, its loud, pleasing and slightly obnoxious.

The whole point of buying a turbo is to mod it. Sounds like you should save it for someone else then.

Even as is, they can take more boost than stock - which is NOT 10-12 - more like 6-8psi. 10-12 with premium gas will be manageable, even w/o an IC. I don't even run premium in mine a lot, since it's still stock. For now.

924RACR - 931's had 5-bolt wheels right? if so, mike id suggest getting some new wheels. the BBS dont look right without a little lip on them and theyd probably clog really easily with snow and that would be bad lol.

Not all 931's had 5 bolt...some 80's had 4bolt (4x108) with discs in the back. I believe all 81's and 82's had 5 bolts though.

I'd say jump on it for that price, as long as it runs that's quite a good deal. 82's are the rarest of the 931's also.

I like the 931 also but the thing is there isn't as much aftermarket stuff for it like the 951. also parts seem harder to find. for a 944 /951 you can pretty much find any little part you want.

also is it really a good idea to just start increasing the boost on a 25 year old car with no history?

voodoo, i *think* I am keeping my car. If van can pull the broken shock mount out I am most certainly keeping the car.. it finally runs right.. such a freaking blast. the sound of the 60-1 spooling makes me feel naughty

If the trailing arm is toast and I can't find one for a reasonable price I will give my mom all the parts she wants and sell the rest of the car.

more details on the a6?

so its sounds like I should buy it. I really don't want it to take any funds away from the 951 and I don't want to have to put money in it. What are the typical things I should look out for? I guess I should mention I already have an extra 951 intercooler and a newly acquired mig welder..but I want it to be dead nuts reliable. Little aftermarket sounds perfect for me.

Here is the sellers response:

the car is excellent no leaks battery box was fixed long ago (with a piece of fully welded in stainles sheetmetal then covered in bedliner) the car dose not leak fluids at all i have fixed more things than i can even list
-altenator is new
-cv joints all rebuilt in back
-transaxle is replaced with one from a 944 with only 16000 miles on it
-rear end has 944 brakes on it and a 944 rear swaybar
-tires are great lots of tread
-front timing belt has been done including lower crank seal and top camshaft seal
-brake master cylinder is rebuilt and sleeved in stainless so it will never go bad again
-all the calipers on all four wheels have beed gone through
-fuel pump in back was done
-in the interior the gauges were all broken but they work now
-seats are ripped on the bottom but ive never seen a 924 that hasnt had ripped seats

other wise car is great runs and drives beautifully and there are tons more stuff that ive fixed only reason im selling it is because i need the space it pains me to sell it so cheep but it needs to go here are some pictures call me.

I will attach the pics in a minute. basically interior is pretty nasty, but seats and new door panels / shifter would clean it up nice.

LOL... is it really a good idea to take advice from a 'lister with your history???

alx is correct... and those are the correct original rims - same as I often run on my 924 racecar.

Fixed it for you.

Also - it is obvious from the pictures that the wheels are 5-bolt. Looks like a fine example. Price seems in-line too.
