Default EV 944

Hi guys,

i'm about to start a 944 electric motor conversion (don't hate me)... do you know anyone who's done such a thing? the torque tube connection is baffling me a little...

I'm not a fan of electric cars really but there was some place on t.v. a couple of months ago that did EV conversions and they had a black 944 that was done. So yes they are out there.

Here is what a quick google search found...

Yeah, i saw something on the discovery channel where they made an electric 944 drag car, and it was faster than the original. I think it would be cool to see; you should document it all with pictures and such if you go through with it. Or maybe hook a small Briggs and Stratton to it to charge the batteries and have a true hybrid. Something like this guy did http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/06...ybrid-in-1979/ There is a better article on it somewhere though. Good luck and I hope you find your answers!

well electric motors are much smoother and can have faster acceleration it'll just probably top out at 100km/h or around that.

I actually saw a 928 that was converted to electric motor. saw it parked outside my work one day and went and looked at it. The guy had a custom license plate also that said "electric 928 " or something like that.

oh forgot but I saw an electric 993 I think for sale locally a while ago (100,000 price) 0-60 claimed was like 4 seconds.

The tesla electric car is pretty spectacular, i think the 0-60 is around 3.9 seconds and it can actually go a fair distance. Electric technology is always getting better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Roadster

Of course for myself, i'm a bit partial to diesel technology I'd love to have a tdi 944.

I have this dream to build a drag car with 4 massive high torque electric motors, one on each wheel. I remember reading something about someone doing something similar... like 250hp and 1000tq haha

yeah, JB Straubel has an electric 944.. he's one of the guys behind the tesla car (very nice)... i emailed him and he said he did it so long ago he doesn't have any of his tech specs left.. obviously he got interested in making his own car! (tesla)...

most EV conversions require a plate between the motor and flywheel.. but would that work with the torque tube?

Don.
