Default tyre pressures

Hi, I'm running 19" wheels on my 89 944 turbo running on 265/30/19 and 235/35/19 tyres. On top of this I've got mo30 suspension and drive on horrible bumpy roads in the UK. The car does seem to tram line alot and seems a bit unstable at high speeds 100 mph+. Has any one got any ideas how I can make this a little better with out going back to smaller wheels, ie tyre pessures etc. With thanks Gary

Falken 452's all round, wheels and tyres were bought new, and balanced before fitting on the car.

i'd prob say check yer bushings and everything underneath is tight. and an alignment check too.

what do you mean "tram line"? I assume that's like some kind of "drifting left and right".....

As I am sure you are aware, the UK roads are not kept in particularly good order, with heavy trucks running up and down the same sections of road they create ruts, the wheels get into these ruts and then follows them, this is what we call tramlining.

The suspension has all been checked out and an alignment check, the car will still tramline with the original 16" wheels.

I had a similar situation with my n/a a few months ago. Problem solved when I bought new tires. I assume it was tread wear since the problem didn't occur when the previous set of tires were new(er) with more tread and went away as soon as I put fresh rubber on.

But it sounds like you have fairly fresh tires, so this is probably irrelevant to you.

Hi here's a picture of mine. Tyre pressure is 31psi on the front but not sure about the rears. I'll let you know. I've managed to upset all the old timers with my choice of wheels at home in England, on the tipec.net forum. I really think they don't like change but hey it's my car. It least you guys on this forum are willing to make your cars a bit different from when it left the factory. Here in England it's a crime punishable by death if you so much as change to a non standard car mat. Gary

Beautiful car, I thought my 18"s are big but those 19" look great. The black wheels also goes nice with the silver car.

I don't think you should go any lower than 31psi owners manual says 36 and thats on much higher profiles. Low profiles does make for a hard ride so it will never compare with standard wheels but mine is not too harsh just feels firm like a sports car should.

Personally I believe you can upgrade your car as much as you like, just keep it tastefully.
I've done a bit myself: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/427241-upgrading-my-my-my-baby.html

Cheers johan. Yes I followed your thread with keen interest. Must say your car looks great. I'm going to undertake a complete rebuild of mine including kw suspension, rebuilding the 300bhp engine to a 2.8 lump and then a full respray. I love the look of your 968 mirrors and door handles but will not put mine on untill the respray. I also really like your double din head unit. I'm going for one with sat nav touch screen. Was there any clearance problems with getting it in.

Clearance required only small mods, but if the unit did not have the step of about 1cm at the back it would not fit.

i like it. normally 19's don't fit on a sport cars short of a ferrari/lambo. but those look just fine.

Fresh 968 castor blocks?
Loved what that did for stability on mine (tramlining, etc.), but I'm running 15s.
Might do even more on 19s, who knows.

Agree with making sure you have the 968 Caster Blocks.
18"+ Wheels will follow grooves in the road more then smaller ones. I notice this especially in certain roads. I would mainly just have the alignment checked for now, and see how everything is in that area.

I have heard that UK PCA guys can be kinda uptight, and more shall we say, 911'ish.
I normally don't like the look of larger then 18" on 944's, however yours looks really good! Especially like the color combination of your car and wheels.

ps.. I wish we had side repeaters and no side markers.
