Someone has a Rennlist voodoo doll...
... a voodoo doll that looks like a 944. And that person keeps tearing out the timing belt on that voodoo doll. What is it with all the broken timing belts lately? There's been like 4 or 5! I hope it stops soon!
I mean, I know we're all broke, and probably busy too, but please, if nothing else, just open it up and put a new belt in there. You can go back and do the rollers and seals later. A broken belt could set you back $1000-2000!

Don't forget the laziness aspect. I've been driving around with partially working p/s for the past 3k mi because I've been too lazy to get under the car and tighten the belt. Having a lowered car and all the splash gaurds makes working on these things a giant PITA.

I felt the same way!
I was driving and worried about hearing something pop or start knocking, atleast I made it home safe! Still figuring out what's going on too. But I saw like 3-4 threads about belts.
I was going to do my stuff over winter (once snow falls), so this is a little early, but not unwelcome.

had mine retentioned 15k miles ago, on the complete opposite side of the country, the guy said it still looked good just needed to be tightened a bit. I am most likely due...

My belts are like 2 years and 2,000 miles overdue, and i have everything i need to do them, i just don't have time with school...plus i'm nervous i might screw something up, i've never done anything of that magnatude before. I might just bring it to a shop if they let me bring my own parts. I opened it up and the belts look great, but i just cant chance it.. that being said, i think my original rubber centered clutch will go before my belts... it has 156,000 miles on it, the pedal sticks a bit sometimes, the pedal travel is different all of the time, and sometimes when i depress the clutch it feels like i'm squishing down on something... I really hope my belts don't break

lol after I do my clutch and torque tube I won't have any money left for a while. My belt rollers water pump were replaced 2.5 years ago but only 15,000 kms ago but i"m worried my tensioner stud will snap next with all my bad luck.
a broken timing belt I can fix myself. I'd just get a used head, head gasket kit, new belts / rollers and that's it.

/different than what? and in what respect? First of all, they are 16valve DOHC 3.0 litre engines, so besides just the timing belt they have a chain that syncs the two cam shafts....

The bite in the *** is coming my way. But I got a backup motor. So whatever comes first, me getting the money and motivation, or the belt breaking.
We shall see..
