Angry More #$%@ Mice!

I posted a few months ago that I'd had a mice apparently chew his way into my car thru the shift boot ( it was ready for a new one anyway)...so I have not put a new boot in yet..and now I think he's back...so there's now a trap in the passenger side footwell. What's disturbing is that I pulled what appears to be a mouse-house out of the area beneath the intake runners by the base of the injectors. How can I keep my little friends from calling this their home? Has anyone ever stuffed this void with steel-wool? Is this a bad idea?

Im not sure about the steel wool aspect - but if you have a garage just leave the windows in the car down. My father's Corvette had a bit of a mice problem (They liked the nice warm footwells and center console after a drive). Anyway - his car began to smell of mice **** and leaving the windows down gave them no reason to stay (no warmth).

I store my car during the winter in an area teeming with field mice. I use moth ***** around the car and in the tail pipe and four boxes of Decon (in each corner of the store room). Since your car is used, skip the moth *****. I find the boxes half eaten through the first week in storage and then no more loss of the food-and no more mice- for the rest of the winter.

As for the steel wool, it would probably do no harm, but I'd bet the critter would move to another cozy location in the car.

944Maine,

I second the mothball comment... when the car is stored, I have four tied bundles of mothballs that I tuck behind each tire (be sure to move them before backing up... don't ask.) The garage doesn't smell that great, but I've been told that mice can't stand it. Doing this, I've never had any problems.

I've heard of using mothballs for squirrels, should work for smaller rodents too.

I can't be more than 10-12 miles from you and I've only seen 2 mice in the last 10 years. Of those, one was in the back yard and the other had tried to hibernate in the basement of my old house.

Put a small tray of ammonia under the car, most animals and small rodents can't stand it.

Hah, speaking of rodents inside cars... My older brother has a '76 912E which had some rodent trouble. Seemed the rat/large mouse was getting in the car as it sat with a blowm motor and would chew his steering wheel and leave chewed nuts on his seats. When we removed the motor (after about 5 months), we found a nest in one of his headers...
The funniest part came after we had the motor removed from the car, had covered it with a tarp and were calling it a day. We heard noise from the motor as we hit the garage door button, and saw a fat rat run out of the tarp and under the door. Never seen the thing since.

A radio tuned to a talk station will generally keep rodents away. They do not like the sound of the human voice..Probably Rush or Ollie work the best...

Nix the cat. Our neighbor's likes to come into our garage and sit on my hood when its warm. I'm going to shoot that cat one of these days. The solution is a saucer of antifreeze <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

Animals like it because it is sweet, but little do they know...

I just can't bring myself to do it as its my daughter's best friend's cat.
