Lately when I see "rice" I have been trying to be more understanding. Just like the art I see in museums that I don't get, I throw these "rice" culture cars in with it. To each his own. It's the people that drive like their brain is the size of a grain of rice that I don't have tolerance for. Porsche drivers included. Altezza lights or not, idiots drive all makes and models. I'm thinking of getting a big 6 ton military transport dueley and ricing it out. I'll put an actuall Cow catcher from a train on the front bumper for that Ricey "racing" look, and an aircraft tail section in the rear with functional flaps. I'll fill the rest of the bed with bass equipment so big and heavy that anyone who wants to have a sound contest at a light will have to replace their windshield and visit an ear specialist, and if some one wants to race I will have nitrous on that big diesel. The entire thing will be lowered and painted neon green including the pimpin rims I will add, ohh, and I won't forget the matching colored lighting under neath. Now if any of you photo shop guys wanna hook me up with a pic, I'd appreciate it. Just warn me so I can get the bucket ready

FYI, The Japanese government supports whaling for "research purposes". Coincidentally, they also get to use all the products of the killed whales.

Raw whale tastes GOOOOOOOD!!! Especially with a little tofu on the side.

Not that I have any desire to keep this thread going, but FYI Honda trannies are pretty strong. There are Honda drag cars using slighty modified Integra LS trannies to put down 600 hp.

Asking about Altezza's on a Porsche board is like taking your puppy to a dog fight with a sweater on him. (Well, the puppy thing sounded funny 20 years ago when I read it in a Charlie Brown strip...)
All I can say is:

Please take no offense to my opinion. I just think altezza's are wrong. Just wrong...

While I agree with you generally about the Honduh, and the 944 was a pretty exceptional car at the time, there are certain modern inexpensive Japanese cars that will easily hang with or beat an NA 944 on a race track. My 91 Sentra SE-R is one of those cars. Light weight, great brakes, one of the best production engines you'll want to find, and extremely forgiving on the race track as well as very fast. There are some others out there as well.

the SR20DE engine takes to turbocharging quite well. I have two friends who have put down 400 hp to the wheels on totally stock internals (this being a NA engine from the factory - although a factory turbo engine was available in Japan) and 9.5:1 CR.

I race a friend's SE-R in SCCA ITS racing and it's every bit as good as the 944. The only bummer is it's FWD, but what counts is where you finish.

I'm building an ITS 944, but think my bud's SE-R has more potential.

We have a lot of folks who DE with their SE-Rs and they embarrass a lot of cars that folks think are better.

I'm not so sure it is apples and oranges, or not as much as you'd think.

And now they build trucks. Woo hoo.

The SE-R has the suspension, although the coachwork is a flexi-flyer. BTW, don't forget the suspension of the early 944 is VW/Audi derived.

As the power goes up, that becomes truer and truer, but you might be surprised. I have several friends with 300 hp to the wheels turbo SE-Rs that are daily drivers that I'd bet a six of my beloved Shiner Bock would hang with a dailer driver 951 with similar hp.

I'm not trying to come into a Porsche forum and talk smack. I hate that sort of thing and I am a 944 owner. But remember that the 944/951 are based on mid to late 70s technology. Modern Japanese cars have come a long way.

Oh, and put a good turbo engine in a second gen CRX Si and race a 951... Those CRXs are really light weight with a great suspension and they're blisteringly fast. Even an NA CRX Si that is set up for track use is incredibly fast and can embarrass some impressive cars.

They just don't have the boutique appeal.

But I will agree that most of the ricey cars don't have the goods.
