Post CA Festival of Speed Recap with Pic's

I ended forgetting my camera... So Nicole brought it with her when she came in the afternoon. Some of the other guys snapped pictures. Ron even video taped various parts of the day including our 5 lap run of the the track.

Recap... (More Pictures at www.968s.com)

I was up last night preparing my car for the 2nd annual festival of speed held at the California Speedway in Fontana. I believe my neighbors did not appreciate the car pulling in out of the garage at 1AM for the latest car wash I have ever done. I had the new/freshly painted PU Splitter and rear Tech Art Cab boot spoiler delivered around 6PM. They were the finishing touches the car needed for it's debut. So I met up with a 7 So.Cal 968 owners and Chris Rihaa a 944 owner from OC. 5 Of the 968's including mine, met up at the Block in Orange at around 7:30am...(4 hours of SLEEP!) We spent a good 2 hours talking 968. I really enjoyed the company of the others. We mostly talked about the little differences between the years. Some of the guys got some ideas on future modifications. Eventually we made our trip to Fontana a 45 min caravan to the FOS. At the FOS we met up with 3 968 (Brian & John & ?) owners whom also participate on the 968.net board. The event was much different then last year, the focus was directed to the races. Less vendors & no swap meet was quite a drag! BUT... The addition of the GT class cars and the track tour made the event! All makes and model GT and Cup cars were out in full force. Between heats the track opens up to track tours guided by a PCA pace car. Top speeds reached over 100MPH! Ron ended up riding with me, hard to believe he put his life in my hands! I drove he filmed... Unfortunately you hear both of us cussing the entire time at a 1970's corvette which held the pack up, seemed like he had a good mile distance from the car in front of him. Tight turns came to a complete stop for this jerk! Unfortunately they did not group the cars so every group had a slug... luckily we did not get stuck with the Ford Turbo Dully...or the Nissan pickup... or the cavalier with the smoking brakes (SAM got the pleasure of dealing with this wreck on wheels) 90% of the cars were P-cars but the bad egg ruined it for most groups. With a little slow and go you could get some good runs in. After the tour everyone reconvened we had some beers and walked the paddock gawking over some of the amazing cars brought to the event. About 3PM we all decided to call it a day... And boy what a day it was I came home and passed out. When I woke up at 7:30 I found that the Sun did a number on my Red neck!... Now me and the Mullet man in the corvette have one thing in common! All in all it was a great day with old and new friends.

So the tally ended up being:

Coupes:
1 White
1 Red
1 Amethyst (Pitou's twin)
1 Midnight Blue Met.

Cabs:
2 Red
2 Midnight Blue Met.

Smacks of Lambhorghini to me, such as the new Mercielago, due to the gullwings and similar design.

Saleen's doors open normally, btw.

No way, that cant be lambo, their design is very distinct in all their models. They dont race, and the private raced versions of their cars dont look that different. It reminds me of saleen...any other word on it?

Looks like a good time, I wish i could have gone.... Instead i was stuck picking up my dad and step mom at the airport.... On a brighter note, my dad knew how much i wanted to go, so on his trip he bought me a book dedicated to the 924/944/968... so i am happy and content now... Still I wish i could have gone? How was the san diego region holding up without me? Lots of cars from us???

Mosler MT900S yes... most the regular GT teams seen on Speedvision were runnin their cars. I think the Mosler had the best times of the day.

The GT1 body kit was contained in a small trailor not one of the big semi's It was not Kelly moss.

Yes $20 gets you behing a pace car for some high speed track action. This was by far the highlight of my day! The turn out seemed to be much better last year.

I did indeed want to drool on the car, but out of respect I instead created a puddle a few feet away. They had taken the normally black engine cover and made it clear, still with the slit styling and such which made for an unbelievable view of the 6.2L V12.

Anyways for pictures of them so you can all get caught up on what they all look like including the new Gallardo which will be a 500hp V10 midengined smaller version of the murcialago check out www.lambocars.com

The Huntley Racing Team was there running our customers 86' 944 N/A with HR-2.8 ltr with our suspension etc... We ran 4 full days of racing starting Thursday! We burned over 80 gallons of race gas! Our customer had a blast pulling 944 turbos on the straits and battling with many 911 and 944 race cars. We ended up finishing 3rd in GT4S after a great start but with a couple of oopsies during the race and a limited slip which went bye bye during qualifying the previous day, which cost us some time. The car was a real attention getter with it's distinct sound eminating from it's side oval pipe. She made over 145 MPH in 5th gear on the banking. We got her down to a low 1:59 lap time with room to grow with some more driving time for our novice driver. Both driver and crew had a great time talking with all the passers by wanting a closer look at the little red car that could!
