Are there any threads floating around that document your build?
i too am in this dudes boat. how well would a 87 944s hold up for a supercharged option? Im currently in the process of decieding a option for more hp gains from the 16 valve 2.5.
Thanks in advance,

engine is one thing but for 944 2,5L you'll need to do substantial upgrades like gettings stiffer struts and brakes off from S2/951

I read this a lot, and while it would be nice to have those extra parts, it depends on how you plan to drive your car. I'm following this and other supercharger threads because I would like to get my 2.7 up to around 200 hp if I can. I'm only looking for more passing power for a street driven daily driver. Or maybe a little more get up and go on those rare moments where there is no traffic on a back road.

What I'm trying to say is that 65, 75, or 85 mph is still the same as it was for my N/A regardless of horse power. Getting there however quicker that 40 hp would allow would not require any suspension or brakes parts from a turbo/S2. Now if I had plans on taking it to the track, or driving the way I used to in my younger days, then I really would need to have those options. But for now I don't need to have any of those turbo/S2 extra's, even though they would be nice, just to have a little more fun. IMHO

if you have the supercharger set up with a bypass valve, your normal brakes should be fine considering that at cruising/no throttle (when you would be braking) the supercharger is not boosting the engine, air is being routed entirely around it...

would it be better to have all that fancy stuff? sure. huge brakes and stiff suspension should lessen the chance of a fatal when you pull into a traffic bottleneck at 165 -- or launch your SR-71 into the weeds negotiating Deadman's Curve.... you can add power, drive TOP SPEED and not break up – all before making a politically correct car. this isn't 500 hp.... just don't drive like an ***.

im nearly done with mine, waiting on a few plumbing parts to show up and it will be all set.

i have considered reproducing my bracket and some stuff, if there was a demand and the price was right. my bracket is definitely overkill for what its doing, but it could probably survive atmospheric re-entry.

Go ahead and say it Odur, "you could have a V-8 instead". Come on, you know you want to.

Did you retain the A/C on your car?

I have the V8 thoughts in the back of my head and have largely planned such a swap down the road should my SC be "a little much" for the 944 motor to take. Doubtful that will be the case but...

Yes, I had to get creative to keep the AC and mount the M90 lower down. Hence the alternator on the PS bracket. See signature.

The reason my bracket is overkill is because there is potential for up to 50HP to be drawing on the SC belt from AC and the blower at full tilt. Can't have a bracket failing, belts are cheap. As such, it is plasma-cut from 1/2" steel plate and the various mounts are double-layered tubing. I used a ratchet-strap to try to pull the piece apart after welding, between the back of my van and a tree. The van started rolling backwards and the tree started bending, and the bracket didn't even care.

Honestly I am in the same boat in a way. I have source a SC though haven't laid eyes on it yet, while at the same times I am keeping my feelers out for a good deal on a LS engine.

Either would be a long term project, but I really need to get off the fence and decide which way to go.

Send me a PM on your brackets if you seriously are interested in selling a set, my SC would be a M62 IIRC.

If you were going to go with a blower I would skip the 62 altogether and go straight for the M90...50% more air per revolution gives you a lot more headroom for power potential, not to mention you can spin it slower which means less parasitic draw and less heat...

Rocket's work is beyond impressive.... but let's compare polishing turds vs going v8....

and start from the bottom...

how many people you know been burned going V8?

I've driven 110 k miles, and this fancy, 245-hp, vibrating behemoth's cost near 8 grand to keep on the road.

the engine's not bad for a 4 cylinder.

but, i'm not far away from doing the cam chain, pads, etc AGAIN.... and it still needs a headgasket, rod bearings, and a new pick-up tube.

and the camshafts are prolly ready to go anytime....

you spend all this time/money (your time still counts) and the torque is just as gutless as ever.

still, mine is one of the happy stories. it still runs.

.

Spencer, what is your projected power output?
