I used AGLA's (Alan Gunn Leather out of Florida) boot & **** replacement. Outstanding quality. Not sure how it compared to dealer price, but I paid a small premium for "custom color" (anthing other than black). They advertise in Pano & Excellence.

My cars have Wheelskins 944 shift boots, one from JC Whitney, the other from Zims I think. Fit is great, very soft, thick leather. Getting the pattern button back on isn't easy and at first I didn't even think it was possible, but it is.

Challenge with a replacement boot is avoiding a rattle after installation. The shifter has a rubber baffle at the top that keeps the thing from rattling. Replacement boots have a solid rubber core with just enough room to slide the shifter up in them. Problem is that the very top has space and can still rattle. Close tolerances prevent use of the original baffle. I solved this (mostly) with just enough electricians tape wrapped around the top of the shifter to cushion the top and still fit up in the replacement boot.
This is a bit of a convoluted explanation but it will be readily apparent once you remove the original boot.

I've bought a couple of them from Ian and been very happy. Ian is friends with Alan and gets some neat stuff from time to time. I have a custom leather linen covered console lid that Alan did for Ian that looks extremely nice and matched perfectly. Of course, I took it off my car when Ian got me a 968CS console insert instead (weight savings and I don't have to worry about that damed hinge breaking anymore! lol). Anybody interested in buying it? I will post a picture if there is any interest.

Regards, ...Scott

I made my own shift boot, well, my mom helped me with the sewing, but it came out pretty good. That way you can pick whatever leather you want. I took off the old one and pulled it apart to make a pattern, and it fits great.

My daughter got me a Wheelskins boot for Christmas. Putting it on is sorta' like pulling your bottom lip over your head, but once installed it looks great. The shift pattern button is deceptively hard to remove and install,,,but no harder than carrying your engine downstairs I'm sure.

Thanks guys. I will track one down.

Just picked up the Tequipment Boxster 5 Speed Shifter. I am going to cut it down and have a sewing shop attach it to the new shifter, for a totally stock look.

Whoooeeee!

I bought AGLA shift boot and **** combo in burgundy. "www.aglausa.com". Outstanding quality, easy to install, look of original but leather was actually a little heavier than original. I was so impressed I am sending my steering wheel in to be redone next week.
