^True, but I'm not sure I want a 20yr old car with a salvage title. I wouldn't be able to give it away if I wanted to sell eventually.

my car had a salvage title when i bought it, iirc all it took was a brake/light inspection and a smog and some paperwork to get it to a regular title

nope, it still has a salvage title, it just needs that stuff before you can get it registered for street use.

Salvage titles are always salvage titles AFAIK. Never heard of one getting changed.

Your title is a rebuilt title, V2. I'm going through the same dilemma on my S2. I need a windshield to get mine cleared to a rebuilt and registered for street use.

That will definitely total the car. Also, if she left the scene of the accident...hit and run? Isn't her *** grass with the cops as it is? That's no itty bitty car ding. That's a that-car-is-effing-totaled-ding. I'd report to the authorities about her hit and run.

He mentioned she had stopped and that it wasn't a hit and run- there were some suggesting he try to get her to cut him a check.

Whoops. Did the authorities come to the scene while she was still there?

No autorities were notified- no need. She did the proper thing. She left a note and notified our manager and filed an incident report. She also already filed a claim and has taken full liability. The adjuster will inspect the car tomorrow. Pretty sure she's done for. And Rocket, salvage titles remain salvaged like everyone says. No reversing it. It just means that the car was purchased back from the insurance company and repaired after they delcared it to be total loss. I personally wouldn't mind buying an older car with a salvage title depending on what the damage was. The trouble is that most modern mechaincal-retards think of a mangled mass of steel and broken glass that was repaired with duct tape when they think of "salvage". The fact is that many cars, like my own, are in great shape, but the age and depreciating value mean that a small issue that is relatively easily fixed can often total the car. That's the downside of owning an old car. If it gets hit, either expect to throw it away or keep it forever.

True that. My car had a broken front bumper, radiator, a/c condensor, oil cooler, windshield, fog lights and paint work...She had 98% of my vehicles worth already totalled up in parts and she wasn't even done. (they valued mine at 12k).

You may come out smelling like a rose. It's rare, but I did. I bought my S2 for 8k, invested close to 6k in numerous parts, and the only thing damaged that I had bought for the car was my splitter. That 6k included a saratoga top and 2k worth of wheels and tires. They told me I could keep the hatch, exhaust and anything not stock. So I bought a car for 8k, and got 12k out of it. Not bad at all. Then insurance let me keep my totalled car, add 1500 to their check...and go purchase another 944!

I, for one, love my insurance company.
