Post Tire rubs

I am considering the Paragon ride height kit for the koni sports and was wondering if any one else currently had this set up with a 225/50 front tire. My tire currently rubs the front fender in auto-x could that be because I have the original boges?

Camber man Camber.. you need to prob put in a degree or two to have them clear the fender wells.. the diffrent kind of strut won't make a diffrence I don't think...

Nothing you can do about that tire rub at low-speed turns where you have to crank in a lot of steering. The stock car does that with 205mm tires too. Add some more negative camber, like -3 degrees and get some stiffer springs.

I have 225/50's in the front (on 16' wheels) and have no tire rubbing, even in autocross and track driving.

Are you on 17's?

You may have to roll the inner fender to have better clearance. More camber may help, but if your wheel well is so tight, more neg. camber may lead to rubbing on the inside. Plus anything more than -1.5 degress will result in lots of inner treaad wear if you drive your car even occasionally on the street.

Just my $0.42

Thanks for the replies. I will probally get the 300lb or 350lb springs with the struts. I am hoping that once I get bump rubber back on the car I will not rub the fender in the sharp turns.
How bad will the car handle with the Koni sports 300/350 lb springs and the ride height kit from Paragon until I can save up money to do the rear.

Hmmm...don't know why you have rubbing and I don't. Here's my setup in the front:
16x7 968 5 spoke wheels
Dunlop SP8000 225/50ZR16's
Camber: -1.2 degrees on driver's side; -1.0 on passenger. (That may be the trick...)
I don't think the inner fender was rolled: prev owner had 205/55's in the front, and used the car only on the street.
I do have the optional sport suspension (Koni adjustables), but I don't think they are on 'super firm' setting. (Based on my body roll, I KNOW I'm not on any firm setting!)

Hope you figure out your rubbing!

Here's how you make a stock 944 rub the front 205mm tires on the fender:<ol type="1">[*]find uphill switchback turn, 25-30mph @ max grip[*]take inside curve going uphill @25mph[*]hit a bump in mid-corner if you can[*]tire will rub on fender[/list=a]The reason the tire rubs, especially in slow-speed corners is because it's aimed out an angle. If you turn the wheel 30-degrees and look down from the top, the point where the tire's edge intersects the fender's edge is where the rubbing will occur. It will occur when the wheel moves up 2" or so to close that gap. That's why in high-speed corners with little steering input you don't rub as often because the tire never protrudes outside of the fender.
